Position overview
The Director, Operational Risk Management, APAC provides supervision of the Operational Risk Management framework and its effective implementation across the APAC business. Working closely with business, functional and risk leaders, the role strengthens governance and controls, enhances operational resilience, drives process improvement, and enables informed, risk-based decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation of the Operational Risk Management framework, risk management strategy, and governance standards
- Lead key operational risk management programs, including Program Insight/RCA, KRIs, operational risk incident management
- Improve control effectiveness through risk assessments, control testing, process reviews, and timely remediation of identified issues
- Strengthen business continuity, crisis management, and operational resilience through planning, testing, and continuous improvement in partnership with country risk leaders, functional experts and enterprise colleagues
- Provide operational risk evaluations and assessments for transactional risk assessment
- Partner with business leaders to identify emerging risks and implement practical mitigation strategies
- Deliver clear, actionable risk insights and reporting to senior management and risk committees regarding to Operational Risk
- Foster a strong risk culture through stakeholder engagement, coaching, and guidance
- Collaborate and develop local risk teams while driving operational risk and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business, Actuarial Science and/or equivalent experience
- Professional qualifications (ie. GARP, PRM, FRM, or CII) in related field is preferred
- Minimum 10+ years' experience of operational risk, audit, resilience experience within related reinsurance or insurance industry
- Advanced understanding risk management frameworks and regulatory expectations
- Strong influencing and excellent communication skills. Proven stakeholder management and change management capabilities
- Ability to translate complex risks into practical business solutions and executive-level reporting
- Identifies and resolves technical, operational, and organizational problems
- Guides, influences, and persuades others either internally in other areas or externally with customers or agencies
- Ability to make timely and effective decisions
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills, attention to detail and accuracy
- Advanced skills in Excel, SharePoint, Power BI and PowerPoint
