Job Description:
The Role
We are seeking a seasoned and technically strong Director of Software Engineering to lead the development and evolution of the Archive platform. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of a transformational modernization journey, reimagining and rebuilding an enterprise-wide customer communications Archive platform.
You will play a defining role in shaping the future of how systems and users interact with the modernized platform, replacing aging systems with modern, high-performance, container-based applications that integrate seamlessly across enterprise systems, tools, and financial data services. Beyond engineering delivery, you will own the delivery roadmap, drive technology strategy, and lead a high-performing team through a complex, multi-phase modernization.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery and Execution
- Own end-to-end engineering delivery, from backlog refinement and sprint planning through release management and production deployment.
- Drive a high-performance delivery culture that balances velocity with quality, reliability, and security in a regulated financial environment.
- Establish and monitor KPIs for delivery health, system performance, reliability, and modernization progress, using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Remove organizational blockers and dependencies that impede engineering execution, escalating appropriately and decisively.
- Drive incident management, root cause analysis, and operational stability improvements across the platform.
- Own technology lifecycle management and technology product management, ensuring all applications and platform components are maintained to the latest standards, current versions, and best practices.
- Champion the adoption of AI-enabled engineering capabilities and intelligent automation opportunities that improve developer productivity, accelerate delivery, enhance software quality, and reduce operational overhead.
- Lead large-scale archive modernization initiatives, including legacy platform retirement, cloud migration, archival data migration, and platform simplification while maintaining business continuity.
- Establish service level objectives (SLOs), operational metrics, and reliability targets that ensure platform stability, resiliency, and customer satisfaction.
- Partner with architecture and engineering leaders to ensure solutions are designed for scalability, observability, resiliency, security, and long-term maintainability.
Strategy, Roadmap and Planning
- Closely partner with Product Manager and VP of Engineering to build a delivery roadmap balancing modernization, operationally driven initiatives, regulatory compliance, and operational stability.
- Translate strategic intent into actionable engineering plans with clear milestones, resource requirements, and success metrics.
- Lead structured planning and prioritization processes, balancing new capability delivery, platform modernization, and operational stability.
- Partner with business stakeholders to align technology delivery with business goals.
- Establish design principles and platform standards that guide engineering decisions and ensure the Archive platform is a best-in-class product.
- Communicate technical strategy and delivery roadmaps clearly to both technical and non-technical executive audiences.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Compliance, and Records Management stakeholders to define the long-term strategy for archival data management, retention, retrieval, governance, and regulatory compliance.
- Drive technology decisions that balance platform modernization, operational risk reduction, regulatory obligations, scalability, and total cost of ownership.
Organizational Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers.
- Drive talent development, resource planning, and associate growth.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Inspire and align the engineering team around a shared modernization vision, maintaining momentum and morale through a complex, multi-phase transformation.
- Influence and align stakeholders across Product, Architecture, Compliance, Operations, and Technology organizations to achieve shared business and technology outcomes.
- Build organizational capabilities that support long-term platform ownership, engineering excellence, and modernization objectives.

- Proven ability to work with and modernize legacy technology stacks while maintaining system stability and operational continuity.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in a regulated financial environment.
- Solid grasp of software architecture, distributed systems, and real-time data platforms.
- Deep understanding of archival and retention strategies, information lifecycle management, data governance, and large-scale data migration patterns.
