The Position
Role Summary
The Domain Architect is a hybrid role bridging solution-level architecture strategy and product-level delivery within Lab Insights. Lab Insights products are key components of cross-organizational solutions; this role serves as the critical bridge between the Architecture and Technology Standards Office (ATSO) solution vision and Lab Insights product teams. The Domain Architect translates solution-level requirements into actionable work—collaborating with product architects and Product Managers—while maintaining the holistic architecture blueprint, facilitating CI/CD standards adoption, and orchestrating cross-product integration. As a member of the Architecture Dependencies Review Board, this role ensures domain products align with global enterprise standards while maintaining technical quality, scalability, and delivery cadence.
Your Key Responsibilities:
1. Enterprise & Domain Architecture Alignment (ATSO Collaboration)
- Global Alignment with ATSO: Partner closely with the Architecture and Technology Standards Office (ATSO) to align Lab Insights products with the global Enterprise Reference Architecture and adopt mandated common building blocks (foundation services, cross-domain frameworks, and shared assets).
- Domain Ecosystem Architecture Diagrams: Design, update, and maintain comprehensive end-to-end architecture diagrams for all Lab Domain Products dependencies covering cloud, edge, on-premises infrastructure, and external interfaces.
- Integration Governance: Ensure all Lab Domain products fulfill integration architecture requirements, adhere to defined API contracts, and utilize standard data exchange protocols and messages buses
- Architectural Trade-offs: Identify, evaluate, and guide decision-making around architectural trade-offs, balancing delivery speed against enterprise standards, scalability, performance, resilience, security, and maintainability.
2. Cloud Architecture & CI/CD
- Cloud Architecture: Define and maintain in collaboration with the product tech leads the reference architecture for cloud.
- Common Requirements Compliance: Facilitate adoption of common CI/CD standards, automated test integration, and release guidelines across product teams. Support migration planning and report compliance progress to the DevOps Lead.
- Environment & Deployment Alignment: Collaborate with DevOps and Platform Engineering to align environment provisioning strategies (dev, staging, production-like test labs) with overall solution delivery timelines.
3. Solution Backlog & Cross-Product Coordination
- Architecture Solution Backlog: Collaborate with the ATSO Solution Architect, product architects, and Product Managers to translate solution-level architecture requirements into actionable backlog items for Lab Insights product teams. Bridge ATSO's solution vision with product-level reality, ensuring backlog items are specific, prioritized, and account for technical enablers, non-functional requirements (NFRs), and cross-product dependencies. Product teams maintain a fixed capacity allocation for architecture enabler work.
- Release Planning: Collaborate with product tech leads on the definition of the architectural items in release planning by analyzing backlog items, sizing efforts, defining acceptance criteria, and ensuring dependencies are clear prior to execution.
- Dependency & Risk Management: Monitor cross-team dependencies, manage version compatibility across products, and establish risk mitigation strategies for release cycles.
4. Governance, Compliance & Quality
- Standards & Compliance: Ensure all system designs meet corporate security, data privacy, legal, and regulatory standards (including lifecycle change control plans and compatibility matrices).
- Architecture Dependencies Review Board: Serve as a member of the Architecture Dependencies Review Board, contributing to decisions on standards adherence exceptions and cross-product dependency resolution.
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentor software engineers and product architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence, transparent communication, and continuous process improvement.
5. Key Stakeholders & Working Relationships
- ATSO (Architecture & Technology Standards Office) : Alignment on global enterprise reference architecture, common building blocks, and enterprise technology standards.
- Product & Solution Delivery Leads | Backlog prioritization, release coordination, dependency tracking, and capacity planning.
- Product Architects & DevOps Leads | CI/CD alignment, interface contract enforcement, and domain diagram maintenance.
- Solution System & Test Teams | Validation of E2E user journeys, test environment qualification, and breaking-change mitigation.
- Architecture Dependencies Review Board | Member alongside Head of Architecture (Lab Insights), Distinguished Architect, and ATSO Solution Architect; reviews escalations on standards adherence and cross-product dependencies.
- DevOps Lead | Coordination on CI/CD standards adoption, migration planning, and compliance reporting across Lab Domain products.
- Product Managers | Understanding delivery priorities, customer commitments, and business context for architectural trade-off decisions.
- GCS (Global Customer Support) | Visibility into field issues, integration pain points, and customer-impacting dependencies.
Who you are:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Proven experience in enterprise architecture governance across multiple product teams, including cross-team dependency management and architecture backlog stewardship.
- Demonstrated ability to translate high-level solution architecture requirements into actionable items for product teams, bridging the gap between standards bodies and delivery teams.
- Experience collaborating with enterprise architecture boards or standards offices, contributing to architectural decision-making and exception governance.
- Track record of stakeholder management across organizational boundaries, influencing without direct authority over product teams.
- Experience in healthcare, medical devices, software-as-a-medical-device (SaMD), or highly regulated digital health domains is strongly preferred.
Technical Competencies
- Architectural Blueprinting: Expertise in mapping complex hybrid topologies (Cloud, Edge, On-Premises, Microservices, Message Brokers).
- Integration & APIs: Solid understanding of API design standards, contract testing, data pipelines, and interoperability protocols.
- CI/CD & Infrastructure: knowledge of modern CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, DevOps pipelines), container orchestration, and automated deployment patterns.
Soft Skills & Leadership
- Exceptional cross-functional orchestration and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical problem-solving capacity with a focus on quality and risk reduction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
There is a preferred candidate.
