Job Summary:
The Detroit Tigers are seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer for the 2027 Dominican Summer League season. This is a full-time position based at the Tigers Dominican Academy in San Pedro de Macorís, DR, with time in Lakeland, FL during Spring Training and other club events as needed. The DSL Athletic Trainer provides game and practice coverage, daily treatment, injury prevention, and rehabilitation for players across DSL Spring Training, the regular season, Instructional League, and the Winter Program, while maintaining medical records and reporting directly to the International Medical Coordinator. The position includes health benefits, housing, and meals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide care and management of injuries and illnesses, including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation protocols.
- Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with best practices and minimum standards within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Maintain a clean and organized athletic training room and workspace, adhering to up-to-date sterilization standards and best practices.
- Communicate daily with the International Medical Coordinator and MiLB Medical Coordinator regarding player injury status.
- Communicate daily with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
- Assist with follow-up care for Dominican Summer League players and players residing in the Dominican Republic.
- Be based primarily out of the Tigers Dominican Academy in San Pedro de Macorís, DR, with time in Lakeland, FL during Spring Training and other club events as needed.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Certified Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (BOC), in good standing.
- Eligible for licensure in the State of Florida, in good standing.
- CPR/AED certified.
- Previous baseball experience preferred, but not required.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Athletic training room, academy, and field environment at the Tigers Dominican Academy in San Pedro de Macorís, DR, with travel to Lakeland, FL for Spring Training and other club events as needed.
- Full-time, year-round position; evening, weekend, and holiday hours are required, as dictated by the baseball calendar.
