Electrical Design & Validation Engineer

WEG has an immediate career opportunity for a progressive, forward thinking, analytical, disciplined, and organized Electrical Engineer in Bluffton, IN. This position is suited to an Electrical Engineer who thrives on delivering high quality, accurate results, while efficiently maintaining and enhancing existing organizational systems and standards.

As a member of the technical staff, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design and validation of new electric motors and gearmotors based on customer specifications, technical support of existing products currently in production while utilizing modern engineering tools and technologies to analyze, improve, and optimize product performance. The engineer will be responsible for product validation in the electrical laboratory, ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, primarily UL and CSA requirements. The engineer will also support daily laboratory activities, including testing, reporting, and the development of new test benches and validation methods.

Main Responsibilities

• •Develop, design and test new electric motors and gearmotors to meet customer specifications.
• •Provide technical support for existing products and customer applications.
• •Evaluate existing motor designs to improve performance, quality, reliability and manufacturability.
• •Plan, coordinate and execute electrical and mechanical testing of electric motors, gearmotors and related products.
• •Independently perform laboratory testing as required to support project schedules and laboratory workload.
• •Analyze test results and provide engineering recommendations for product improvements.
• •Support product development through design verification, validation and certification testing.
• •Develop and maintain test procedures, validation plans and laboratory documentation.
• •Develop and improve test benches, fixtures, instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
• •Collaborate with the Laboratory Technician to ensure efficient laboratory operation and testing execution.
• •Follow applicable industry standards, including UL, CSA, NEMA, IEEE, and IEC requirements, to validate product compliance.
• •Create and monitor laboratory KPIs to evaluate performance and drive continuous improvement.
• •Automate testing and reporting processes to improve laboratory efficiency.
• •Work with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to improve motor efficiency and performance.
• •Lead projects to improve engineering tools, testing methods and validation processes.
• •Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, Sales and other functional areas as needed.
• •Perform hands-on electric motor and gearbox testing using laboratory equipment and established procedures.
• •Accurately document, analyze and report test results using ENS and other engineering systems.
• •Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product performance, reliability and testing efficiency.
• •Follow all company safety policies and laboratory standards.

Requirements

• •Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering.
• •0-3 years of relevant engineering experience; internship or co-op experience in testing, validation, manufacturing, or product development is a plus.
• •Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• •Experience with laboratory testing, instrumentation, data acquisition systems and data analysis.
• •Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• •Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• •Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on product quality.
• •Proven experience coordinating technical projects.
• •Physical ability to work within manufacturing and laboratory environments, including climbing stairs, navigating shop equipment and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds.
• •Flexibility for occasional domestic and international travel to customers, suppliers, conferences and manufacturing facilities.

Qualifications preferred:

• •Experience with electric motor design, testing, or validation.
• •Familiarity with UL, CSA, NEMA, IEEE and IEC standards.
• •Experience with UL certification testing and regulatory compliance activities.
• •Experience with data acquisition systems, test automation, PLCs, or LabVIEW.
• •Experience in a manufacturing or product development environment.
