Electrical Engineer - Hardware & Power Electronics

Engineering | Individual Contributor | High-Power Wireless Charging

Position Summary

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with approximately 2-5 years of hands-on experience designing physical electronic products to join our team developing high-power wireless charging systems for electric vehicles. This is a growth role for a practical hardware designer who wants to deepen their expertise in power electronics - not a role that requires a power electronics specialist on day one.

The systems: You will work with hardware operating at up to 75 kW, 1 kVDC / 480 Vrms, and 85 kHz. You are not expected to have hands-on experience at these levels on day one. An experienced senior power electronics engineer will mentor you as you build domain expertise and take on greater ownership.

You will own well-defined electrical circuits and subsystems from concept through prototype and verification, working closely with mechanical, firmware, controls, systems, test, manufacturing, and quality engineers.

What You'll Do

Own electrical circuits and subsystems through requirements, architecture, analysis, schematic design, component selection, prototype, test, and design verification.

Design analog and mixed-signal circuitry, including sensing, signal conditioning, drivers, buffers, isolated and non-isolated interfaces, and supporting power supplies.

Contribute to power conversion and resonant power systems, including inverters, rectifiers, DC/DC converters, semiconductor switching stages, gate drives, protection, and filtering.

Use calculations, circuit simulation, and trade studies to guide design decisions and explain expected behavior before hardware is built.

Develop schematics and work closely with PCB designers; perform or review layout when appropriate for high-power and high-frequency hardware.

Build, bring up, test, and troubleshoot prototypes using appropriate laboratory instrumentation and disciplined high-voltage safety practices.

Investigate switching behavior, losses, parasitic effects, ringing, thermal performance, grounding, signal integrity, and EMI/EMC; identify root causes and implement improvements.

Document designs and test results, participate in design reviews, and support manufacturing issues and engineering changes.

What We're Looking For

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Experience: Typically 2-5 years of professional, hands-on electronic hardware development. Demonstrated work experience and design ownership matter more to us than an advanced degree alone.

Hardware design: Practical analog circuit-design ability, schematic capture, component selection, and experience collaborating on PCB layout.

Lab and analysis: Experience using simulation and bench measurements to bring up hardware, diagnose unexpected behavior, and validate improvements.

Technical foundation: Working knowledge of digital hardware, microcontroller interfaces, and how control algorithms interact with electrical hardware.

Working style: Driven, curious, creative, and dependable, with strong ownership, sound engineering judgment, a hands-on mindset, and clear communication.

Helpful, Not Required

Direct experience with wireless charging or with systems at these voltage, power, and frequency levels is not required. Any of the following would help you ramp faster:

Power electronics such as inverters, rectifiers, DC/DC converters, variable-frequency drives, flyback converters, or resonant converters.

IGBTs, SiC FETs, MOSFETs, gate-drive circuits, protection, sensing, or high-frequency switching.

High-voltage or high-power hardware; wireless or inductive power transfer; resonant networks; or related electromagnetic systems.

High-frequency PCB design, signal integrity, grounding, filtering, RF effects, or EMI/EMC troubleshooting.

Tools such as SPICE/PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, OrCAD, Altium, spectrum or network analyzers, power analyzers, electronic loads, and LCR meters.

Familiarity with Linux for debugging, using development tools, and software deployment.

Experience capturing, decoding, and analyzing CAN bus traffic.

How You'll Grow

You will begin with clearly defined hardware responsibilities and close technical mentorship. As your experience grows, you will own increasingly complex power-electronics subsystems and make broader tradeoffs across performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.

Travel

Limited travel may be required to support engineering development, testing, suppliers, or manufacturing activities.
