Are you passionate about aircraft propulsion systems, electric power technologies, and turning innovative aerospace concepts into reality? Innovative Aerosystems is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team developing an advanced flight vehicle platform from concept through production.

This position offers a rare opportunity to work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment where mechanical, electrical, systems, avionics, software, integration, and testing activities are conducted within the same facility. As a member of a small, focused team, you will have a direct influence on product performance, reliability, and overall program success.

The Electro-Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role in the development and integration of propulsion, power distribution, energy storage, and electro-mechanical systems. The successful candidate will combine mechanical and electrical engineering principles to evaluate system performance, optimize power consumption, support vehicle integration activities, and contribute to the development of a highly efficient aerospace platform.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem solving, system-level thinking, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative aerospace solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the design, analysis, integration, and testing of propulsion and power system components.
  • Evaluate electric motor technologies and select solutions that meet vehicle performance and operational requirements.
  • Analyze power consumption and energy requirements to ensure mission and performance objectives are achieved.
  • Develop calculations and models related to propulsion performance, electrical loads, power distribution, and energy storage systems.
  • Support battery system selection, integration, charging strategies, and energy management activities.
  • Perform trade studies evaluating propulsion, motor, battery, and power management architectures.
  • Develop and maintain electrical and mechanical design documentation.
  • Utilize CAD tools to design and integrate electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with aeronautical, systems, avionics, software, and manufacturing engineers to ensure successful vehicle integration.
  • Support prototype development, system integration, ground testing, and flight test activities.
  • Investigate technical issues, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute technical recommendations supporting program objectives.
  • Support the development of system requirements, specifications, and verification procedures.
  • Evaluate thermal, electrical, mechanical, and operational impacts of design decisions.
  • Assist in transitioning designs from development into manufacturing.
  • Maintain awareness of advancements in electric propulsion, energy storage, power electronics, and aerospace technologies.

Requirements

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Person status required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of electric motor technologies and electro-mechanical system design principles.
  • Understanding of aircraft propulsion systems and vehicle performance fundamentals.
  • Ability to calculate and analyze power requirements, electrical loads, and energy consumption for aerospace applications.
  • Experience with both mechanical and electrical CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of battery technologies, battery management systems, charging methodologies, and energy storage solutions.
  • Experience developing engineering calculations, analyses, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS, LTspice, or equivalent engineering analysis software.
  • Experience working with propulsion systems, motor controllers, power electronics, or energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of battery safety considerations and thermal management techniques.
  • Experience supporting aerospace vehicle development programs.
  • Familiarity with brushless DC motors, permanent magnet motors, and other advanced motor technologies.
  • Experience with system integration, prototype testing, and validation activities.
  • Understanding of aerospace environmental and operational requirements.
  • Experience supporting product development from concept through production.
  • Familiarity with industry standards governing electrical and aerospace systems.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

The successful candidate should demonstrate familiarity with:

  • Electric propulsion systems and performance analysis.
  • Aircraft power generation, storage, and distribution systems.
  • Electric motor technologies and control methodologies.
  • Battery technologies, charging systems, and battery management systems.
  • Thermal management of electrical and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Mechanical and electrical CAD design tools.
  • System integration, testing, and verification processes.
  • Engineering trade studies and performance optimization techniques.
  • Aerospace development and design best practices.
  • Multidisciplinary vehicle integration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and stretch consistent with a typical engineering office, laboratory, and testing environment.
  • Must be able to inspect prototypes, wiring assemblies, batteries, motors, and mechanical hardware.
  • Must be able to lift and carry components weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to participate in system integration, ground testing, and flight test activities as required.
  • Must be able to operate standard computer equipment and engineering development tools.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support suppliers, testing, or development activities.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Learn Company products, technologies, and development programs within six (6) months.
  • Learn Company engineering processes and procedures within three (3) months.
  • Gain working knowledge of the IA Quality System within three (3) months.
  • Develop familiarity with applicable aerospace design standards and compliance considerations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of advancements in electric propulsion, battery technologies, power electronics, motor controls, and aerospace systems.
  • Continuously expand understanding of emerging technologies applicable to future aerospace product development initiatives.
