Marmon Foodservice Technologies, Inc.

As a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings—which is backed by Berkshire Hathaway— you’ll be doing things that matter, leading at every level, and winning a better way. We’re committed to making a positive impact on the world, providing you with diverse learning and working opportunities, and fostering a culture where everyone’s empowered to be their best.

Though you may not know us by name, you’ve most likely enjoyed meals and refreshments supported by our industry-leading brand portfolio. For decades, we’ve designed and manufactured foodservice equipment for some of the world’s biggest, most recognized consumer brands.

We are driven to innovate with a clear purpose in mind: revolutionizing the future of foodservice. Guided by our commitment to Doing Things That Matter, Leading at Every Level, and Winning a Better Way, we focus on delivering meaningful impact for our customers, our communities, and each other.

As Electronics Systems Architect, you will be responsible for translating customer needs and product concepts into clear, actionable system-level requirements and architectures for electronic control systems used in commercial restaurant equipment and appliances. You will serve as the critical link between voice of the customer, business stakeholders, and engineering teams, defining how hardware, firmware, software, and electromechanical components work together to deliver intuitive, reliable user experiences. Leveraging systems engineering best practices, you will drive requirements development, traceability, and verification within a structured development framework, ensuring solutions are scalable, modular, and aligned with customer expectations. This role requires both strong technical breadth and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, enabling effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and with non-technical partners.

This role is subject to our hybrid work model: we collaborate in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The rest of the week, you have flexibility to work wherever it suits you best.

What You’ll Do

Translate Voice of Customer (VOC), user needs, and product concepts into clear, structured system-level technical requirements and specifications for electronic control systems.

Define and maintain system architectures for control systems, including hardware, firmware, software, and electromechanical interfaces, with an emphasis on modularity and scalability.

  • Lead the requirements lifecycle including:
  • Requirements elicitation and decomposition
  • Documentation and validation
  • Traceability across subsystems (hardware, firmware, software)

Partner closely with hardware, firmware, software, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure requirements are understood and implemented effectively.

Develop and manage system-level specifications, interface definitions, and control strategies used to build commercial restaurant equipment and appliances.

Ensure alignment with the V-model development process, including defining verification and validation strategies early in development.

Collaborate with stakeholders to define and refine system behaviors, control algorithms, and user interface requirements.

Drive clarity across cross-functional teams by breaking down complex technical topics into understandable concepts for non-technical partners.

Support test planning and verification activities, ensuring requirements are testable and validated against customer needs.

Contribute to continuous improvement of systems engineering practices, tools, and methodologies.

Who You Are

A systems thinker who can connect customer needs to technical implementation across multiple domains.

A strong communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical audiences, translating complex ideas into clear, actionable insights.

Detail-oriented with a passion for well-structured requirements, traceability,

Collaborative and adaptable, thriving in a cross-functional product development environment.

Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and define structure where it doesn’t exist.

Curious and technically grounded, with a desire to understand how hardware, software, and mechanical systems interact.

Skills/Experience We’re Looking For

Experience with systems engineering methodologies, including the V-model, requirements decomposition, and system validation.

Strong understanding of electronics systems architecture, including integration of hardware, firmware, software, and electromechanical components.

Practical knowledge of requirements management tools and processes (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Polarion, or equivalent).

Experience establishing and maintaining requirements traceability matrices and ensuring linkage from system requirements to verification.

Familiarity with control systems and control algorithm development (e.g., closed-loop control, PID concepts, state-based control logic).

Understanding of embedded systems and how firmware/software interacts with hardware platforms.

Experience defining interfaces and communication between subsystems (e.g., I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, or similar).

Exposure to user interface and human-machine interface (HMI) concepts, especially for appliance or equipment controls.

Knowledge of verification and validation strategies, including test case definition and requirement verification.

Experience working in cross-functional product development environments, ideally within appliances, industrial equipment, or similar domains.

Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to create clear, concise technical specifications.

Familiarity with Agile or hybrid development environments and modern product lifecycle tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

5–10+ years of experience in electronics, embedded systems, or systems engineering roles.

Prior hands-on experience in electronics hardware, firmware, or software development (design experience strongly preferred, though not required for this role).

Demonstrated experience in requirements definition, management, and verification within a structured development process.

Proven ability to translate customer needs into actionable engineering requirements and specifications.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and with non-technical stakeholders.

Experience working with electromechanical systems or controlled appliances/equipment is a plus.

Preferred

Experience in commercial appliance, industrial equipment, HVAC, or similar regulated industries.

Background in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools or approaches.

Experience with regulatory standards and compliance requirements for electronic control systems.

Familiarity with connectivity, IoT, or smart appliance ecosystems.

Exposure to data modeling, system simulations, or digital twins.
