Emergency Department Physician
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health is recruiting a full-time academic emergency physician to join our core clinical operations team as a dedicated nocturnist . We are seeking an outstanding clinician with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, and teaching who will contribute meaningfully to the care of our patients and the academic mission of the department.
As a full-time faculty member at the sponsoring institution for the Denver Health/CU Anschutz Residency in Emergency Medicine, faculty are expected to be highly motivated, collaborative academicians who contribute meaningfully to our mission of “Serving Our Patients and Leading Our Specialty.” Our recruitment process places a strong emphasis on teamwork, alignment with departmental values, and engagement across the clinical, educational, and scholarly missions of our department.
The emergency department (ED) at Denver Health includes a 44-bed adult ED with an additional 13-bed adult low-acuity zone, a 19-bed pediatric ED and urgent care, and a 23-bed CDU providing observation medicine. With a combined annual census of more than 115,000 patients from highly diverse cultures and backgrounds, the ED at Denver Health is the second busiest in Colorado. The Ernest E Moore Shock Trauma Center at Denver Health is a Level 1 adult and Level 2 pediatric trauma referral center for the Rocky Mountain Region. Additionally, the acuity managed by the adult ED is high, with a 25% admission rate. Staffing in the adult and pediatric EDs is provided by board-certified emergency physicians, emergency medicine residents and subspecialty fellows, and advanced practice providers. Strong and highly collaborative relationships exist among physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and consultative services.

All faculty ultimately report to the Chair of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health, contribute to the missions of patient care, education, research, and professional development, and have meaningful responsibilities and faculty appointments in the School of Medicine’s academic Department of Emergency Medicine.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Physicians at Denver Health are faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, serve as teachers for students seeking clinical experience at Denver Health, and provide education for post graduate medical trainees.
2. Focus on Superior Patient Care by (1) practicing evidence-based, high-quality state-of-the art medicine, (2) encourage increased patient understanding, involvement in care, and treatment decisions, (3) achieve and maintain optimal patient access, (4) insist on departmental focus on superior patient service, and (5) participate in or support education and research.

4. Collaborate on Care Delivery by (1) including staff, other physicians, and management in both service and patient care improvements, (2) treat all members with respect, (3) demonstrate the highest levels of ethical and professional conduct, and (4) behave in a manner consistent with Denver Health goals.
5. Listen and Communicate by (1) providing clinical information in a clear and timely manner, (2) requesting information and resources needed to provide care consistent with Denver Health goals, and (3) provide and accept feedback in a respectful manner from all staff.
6. Take Ownership by (1) providing leadership to improve outcomes quality and service quality, (2) working to ensure personal, departmental and organization compliance with all legal and educational requirements, and (3) steadily improve the efficiency and economic aspects of your practice.
7. Quality Metrics by (1) focusing on clinically relevant outcome measures, (2) embracing innovations to continuously improve patient care, service, and organizational efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
1. Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited school
2. Board Eligible/Certified in Emergency Medicine (required).
3. Subspecialty training, fellowship or advanced education (preferred).
Licenses :
MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
- Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
- Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
- Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
- Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
