Job overview

We are seeking an advanced technical expert responsible for complex engine builds, diagnostics, performance testing, dyno operation, and technical problem-solving. This role serves as a subject matter expert within the engine shop and provides guidance and support to less experienced technicians.

Here are the specifics:

Lead complex engine builds, rebuilds, and performance projects.

Diagnose advanced engine performance and drivability issues.

Independently operate and manage engine dyno testing.

Analyze dyno results and recommend performance improvements.

Verify engine specifications, tolerances, and build quality.

Support custom engine development and special projects.

Assist in developing shop processes, standards, and best practices.

Partner with engineering, product development, and customers on technical solutions.

Train and mentor Engine Technician I employees.

Provide technical leadership during troubleshooting and root cause investigations.

Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on commitments.

Work Environment

Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.

Frequent use of hand and power tools.

Exposure to engine noise, oils, fuel, solvents, and moving mechanical equipment.

What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

High school diploma or GED required; must be at least 18 years of age.

Technical training in Automotive Technology, Performance Engines, Diesel Technology, or a related field preferred.

Technical Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of internal combustion engine systems, components, and performance applications.

Thorough understanding of engine assembly processes, blueprint specifications, and performance tolerances.

Advanced knowledge of engine diagnostics, root cause analysis, and failure investigation techniques.

Strong understanding of airflow, fuel delivery, ignition systems, valvetrain operation, and overall engine performance principles.

Working knowledge of engine machining processes and component modification practices.

Technical Skills

Ability to independently perform complex engine builds with minimal supervision.

Diagnoses and resolves mechanical and performance-related issues across multiple engine platforms.

Operates and supports engine dynamometer (dyno) testing activities.

Analyzes dyno data and provides recommendations to improve engine performance and reliability.

Demonstrates advanced proficiency with precision measuring, inspection, and testing equipment.

Reviews completed engine builds to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.

Provides technical guidance, coaching, and training to less experienced technicians.
