Working closely with HUB engineering leaders, factories, product management, project management, supply chain, quality, and customers, you will drive standardization, digitalization, innovation, and continuous improvement while developing a strong leadership pipeline and an engaged, high-performing team.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Define and execute the GEC India engineering strategy and capability roadmap for traction transformers in alignment with Business Unit, Global Product Group, HUB, and factory priorities.
  • Lead engineering delivery for tenders, customer orders, design modifications, product development, value engineering, and lifecycle support, ensuring committed quality, cost, and schedule targets are achieved.
  • Establish effective governance for project allocation, design reviews, technical risk management, escalation, change control, documentation, and engineering release processes.

  • Develop team and technical experts, set clear objectives, coach performance, and foster an inclusive culture of accountability, collaboration, knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Manage resource utilization, productivity, external engineering spending, and cost recovery while balancing demand across factories, HUBs, and projects.
  • Define and monitor KPIs for on-time delivery, first-time-right quality, engineering hours, productivity, utilization, cost performance, customer satisfaction, and competency development; implement corrective actions where required.
  • Drive design standardization, modularization, reuse, digital engineering, automation, and deployment of common tools and processes across the traction transformer engineering network.
  • Partner with factories and cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues, support root-cause analysis, capture lessons learned, and improve product quality, manufacturability, reliability, and total cost.
  • Build trusted relationships with global stakeholders and customers, communicate priorities and risks transparently, and represent GEC India in technical and operational reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, information-security requirements, and engineering guidelines.
  • Live Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity by taking responsibility for your actions while caring for colleagues and the business.

Your background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering; a master’s degree or formal qualification in engineering or business management is preferred.
  • Typically, >14 years of progressive transformer engineering experience, including substantial experience in traction transformers and at least 5 years in people or functional leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of traction transformer design, including electrical and mechanical design interfaces, dielectric and thermal performance, short-circuit withstand, losses, noise, insulation systems, cooling, materials, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience in tender engineering, order execution, design reviews, technical risk management, customer interfaces, and delivery of multiple projects in a global matrix organization.
  • Working knowledge of applicable IEC, EN, railway, quality, and safety standards; familiarity with customer-specific and regional requirements is an advantage.
  • Experience with engineering tools, product lifecycle management, design automation, digital workflows, and structured problem-solving methods such as Lean or Six Sigma are desirable.
  • Proven ability to build and scale engineering teams, manage budgets and capacity, develop talent, lead change, and collaborate effectively across cultures, functions, and time zones.
