Engineering Manager (Laser)

Are you interested in leading an engineering team, developing new products and technologies, and supporting the growth of the Laser business? Hypertherm Associates is seeking an Engineering Manager who brings strong engineering knowledge, people leadership and experience delivering results through cross-functional teams.

The successful candidate will be a strong engineer who can understand technology and applications, provide sound, technical direction and develop the technical capability of the team. The role leads a US-based engineering team and works closely with Associates and cross-functional partners in Italy.

The Engineering Manager will balance product-development pace, engineering standards and team effectiveness. The role will also contribute to the product and technology roadmaps, using knowledge of the Laser industry, cutting applications and OEM technology direction to help establish engineering priorities.

As the Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead and develop engineers through associate selection, coaching, development, performance management and recognition
  • Build team and individual capability through mentoring, training and clear technical ownership
  • Lead research and development work supporting new technologies, intellectual property and product performance
  • Provide technical direction for product and technology development
  • Contribute to product and technology roadmaps through knowledge of the market, applications and technology
  • Lead cross-functional product-development teams across Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Marketing, Operations, Quality and other support functions
  • Ensure new products meet design, reliability, quality, cost, budget and schedule requirements
  • Define and implement engineering standards and product-development processes
  • Understand customer needs and use relevant feedback to improve products, services and processes
  • Build and sustain relationships across Hypertherm to align engineering priorities and execution

Who you are and the experience you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 10+ years of technical and/or people-leadership experience
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to provide technical direction on complex product and technology-development work
  • Proven experience leading and developing engineers or technical teams
  • Experience leading cross-functional product or technology development
  • Experience mentoring engineers on complex technical issues
  • Knowledge of problem-solving and continuous-improvement techniques and tools
  • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical leaders and Associates
  • Ability to partner and collaborate with people at all levels

Laser experience that differentiates you:

  • Knowledge of the industrial Laser market, Laser technology and cutting applications
  • Experience in industrial laser cutting, including laser-machine OEMs, cutting heads, optics, laser sources, consumables or laser applications
  • Experience working with OEM engineering organizations and understanding their product and technology direction
  • Ability to translate OEM and application needs into engineering priorities and identify reusable technology opportunities across multiple OEMs

Preferred experience that differentiates you:

  • Knowledge and practical use of DFMA, FMEA, pFMEA, PCB(A), 3-D and thermal-modeling tools
  • MS, MEM or MBA
  • Project Management Certification
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Japanese language capability

Location: Onsite- Lebanon, New Hampshire

Travel: Up to 25% domestic and international

This is the base pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire.

Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors.
