Description

Orbis Machinery, LLC is a small, growing OEM manufacturer of custom industrial process equipment specializing in mixing, blending, drying, milling, and size reduction systems. Our size provides the opportunity to work closely across Engineering and Manufacturing, take ownership of projects, and have a direct impact on both our equipment and the development of the engineering team.

The Engineering Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for leading and mentoring a small engineering team while remaining actively involved in engineering and design work. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and wants the opportunity to develop others while continuing to design equipment, troubleshoot issues, and support projects from concept through manufacturing. The role may be a strong next step for a senior engineer moving into a first formal supervisory position or an experienced supervisor who prefers to remain hands-on.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and provide day-to-day technical direction to a small engineering team while remaining an active working member of the team.
  • Assign and prioritize work based on project requirements, production needs, and deadlines.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and constructive feedback to team members.
  • Design and support custom industrial process equipment and mechanical systems using 3D CAD software.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to horsepower, torque, shaft loading, bearing selection, drive systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Design and support rotating equipment and power transmission systems including shafts, bearings, gearboxes, couplings, seals, and drives.
  • Review 3D models, fabrication drawings, machining drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability.
  • Support new equipment designs, modifications, rebuilds, replacement parts, and reverse-engineering projects.
  • Work closely with Fabrication, Machining, and Assembly to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support during fabrication, assembly, equipment testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, vendors, and customers on technical requirements as needed.
  • Help ensure engineering projects and drawing packages are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Support the standardization and continuous improvement of designs, components, drawing practices, and engineering processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience designing industrial machinery, rotating equipment, or custom OEM equipment.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and power transmission components.
  • Experience with weldments, fabricated machinery, machining, and mechanical assembly.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, fits, tolerances, and manufacturing drawing practices.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform engineering calculations and troubleshoot mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with industrial mixing, blending, milling, drying, or other process equipment preferred.
  • Experience mentoring, training, leading, or providing technical guidance to engineers or designers preferred. Prior formal supervisory experience is not required.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to balance hands-on engineering responsibilities with team leadership responsibilities.
  • Comfortable working directly with manufacturing personnel in a hands-on environment.
