Empower Multilingual Learners. Expand Opportunities. Transform Futures.
At DSST Public Schools, we believe multilingualism is a strength and every student deserves access to rigorous, engaging instruction. Our English Language Development (ELD) Teachers play an essential role in helping multilingual learners build the academic language, confidence, and skills they need to thrive.
As an ELD Teacher, you'll collaborate with content-area teachers to integrate language development into grade-level instruction, helping students access challenging academic content while celebrating the diverse languages, cultures, and experiences they bring to our classrooms.
Why Teach ELD at DSST?
- Make a Meaningful Impact: Help multilingual learners develop academic language, confidently express their ideas, and access opportunities for academic and postsecondary success.
- Teach Through Collaboration: Partner closely with content-area teachers through DSST's co-teaching model, integrating language development into rigorous, engaging lessons.
- Grow as an Educator: Receive regular instructional coaching, actionable feedback, and professional development while collaborating with fellow ELD teachers and school leaders.
- What Does ELD Instruction Look Like at DSST ?
- At DSST, our primary ELD instructional model is co-teaching. ELD teachers partner with content-area teachers to plan and deliver rigorous, language-rich instruction that helps multilingual learners access grade-level content and develop academic English.
Co-teaching assignments vary by grade level:
- Middle School (Grades 6–8): Co-teach alongside Science teachers using the OpenSciEd curriculum, integrating language development into engaging, inquiry-based Science instruction.
- High School (Grades 9–12): Co-teach in core academic subjects, such as English Language Arts, integrating language development into rigorous, grade-level coursework.
Dedicated ELD Instruction: Depending on campus and student needs, ELD teachers may also lead dedicated or pull-out ELD classes. These classes typically serve approximately 10–15 students using provided curriculum resources, such as National Geographic ELD. Courses are designed to primarily serve students at emerging or early-intermediate English proficiency levels.
