SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, working with clients to help make sustainability happen, within a collaborative, people-first culture. With over 5,000 colleagues globally and more than 1,800 across the UK and Europe , we combine local expertise with international reach to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients.

As part of our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Consultant to join our thriving Environment Management, Permitting and Compliance (EMPC) team. The team supports clients across the waste, industry, power and energy sectors, helping them navigate complex environmental and regulatory challenges while improving environmental, health and safety performance.

Working as part of a UK team of around 30 specialists, you will deliver high-impact consultancy services, collaborate with multidisciplinary experts and have opportunities to work alongside colleagues from across SLR's global business.

The Role

As an Associate EHS Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering high-impact health, safety and environmental consultancy services to clients across a range of sectors, including waste, industry, power and energy.

Working in a client-facing advisory capacity, you will partner with stakeholders at all levels, from operational teams through to senior leadership, helping organisations improve compliance, manage risk and enhance EHS performance.

You will join a growing team providing regulatory compliance and environmental management services to support clients with complex environmental and legislative obligations. While the team currently supports a predominantly UK client base, there are increasing opportunities to work with clients across mainland Europe and collaborate with SLR colleagues around the world.

This role offers significant scope for professional growth, supported by mentoring, technical development and a structured career framework. The preferred locations are Manchester or Bristol , although flexible arrangements will be considered. SLR supports hybrid and agile working practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical, commercially focused advice to help clients improve environmental, health and safety performance.
  • Support clients in meeting regulatory compliance requirements and managing environmental obligations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EHS legislation, industry developments and best practice.
  • Contribute to business development activities, identifying opportunities to win new work and develop client relationships.
  • Plan and manage workloads effectively, supporting junior team members where required to achieve project objectives.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a positive, professional and collaborative approach in all aspects of your work.

Rewards & Benefits

At SLR, we recognise that our people are our greatest asset. In return for your expertise and commitment, we offer:

  • Competitive salary and annual review process.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Private healthcare and wellbeing support.
  • Travel and life insurance.
  • Structured career development framework with clearly defined progression opportunities.
  • 25 days annual leave plus flexible bank holidays.
  • Flexible, hybrid and agile working arrangements.
  • Family-friendly policies designed to support work-life balance.
  • Access to a collaborative and supportive global network of sustainability professionals.

About You

We're seeking an experienced EHS professional with a proven track record in consultancy, regulatory or industrial environments. You will bring strong technical expertise alongside excellent client relationship and business development skills.

You will ideally have:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent health and safety qualification).
  • Experience undertaking EHS audits, with Lead Auditor qualification desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrable business development and client relationship management experience.
  • A degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, commercial and solution-focused approach to problem solving.
