  • 8+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or related industrial operational setting, including demonstrated responsibility for regulatory compliance, incident investigation, risk reduction, training, audits, and cross-functional leadership.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, safety engineering and design principles, EHS management systems, industrial safety practices, environmental compliance requirements, and risk-based prevention methods.
  • Superior communication, critical thinking, leadership, and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of effective emergency response, crisis management, and critical incident response principles and practices.
  • Project management skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Professional certification preferred, such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP, CSM, or other relevant EHS, environmental, industrial hygiene, or safety certification.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for creating a proactive EHS culture throughout the facilities and ensuring EHS is prioritized and integrated in planning, operations, maintenance, contractor work, and daily business decisions.
  • Drive and support visible and consistent leadership commitment and accountability for EHS. Ensure employee involvement, influence, and engagement in EHS at all levels.
  • In consultation with key stakeholders, design, develop, deploy, monitor, and improve the EHS management system, infrastructure, and processes. Ensure EHS systems, programs, governance routines, and performance expectations are effectively integrated with operations and other business processes.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop and deploy hazard analysis, environmental assessments, and risk reduction programs. Leverage data to assess risks, hazards, and trends, target actions, and communicate mitigation strategies for identified risks.
  • In consultation with relevant stakeholders, develop plans, objectives, ownership expectations, and measurable targets to meet key EHS performance indicators and deliverables. Monitor, facilitate, and communicate EHS performance metrics across the facilities, including leading and lagging indicators, corrective action status, audit findings, incident trends, and risk reduction progress.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the implementation, monitoring and review of EHS systems through governance plans, audits and inspections, and management systems reviews. Conduct and coordinate regular on-site EHS audits and reviews.
  • Oversee and monitor the design, engineering, and modification of facilities, equipment, processes, and workstations to ensure safe operations, including ergonomics and machine safeguarding.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as company standards, permit requirements, and internal EHS procedures.
  • Manage and support environmental compliance programs, including air, water, stormwater, hazardous materials, and chemical management requirements. Partner with site leadership and operations teams to ensure permits, plans, inspections, reporting, training, and corrective actions are completed accurately, consistently, and on time.
  • Manage incident investigation, reporting, corrective actions, and communication processes, including root cause analysis, recurrence prevention, loss control, regulatory reporting coordination, and verification that corrective actions are completed and effective.
  • Lead contractor, vendor, and visitor safety management processes, including orientation, site access expectations, pre-job risk review, compliance verification, and coordination with operations and facilities teams to reduce exposure created by non-employee work activities.
  • Develop, lead and track EHS education and training efforts for all levels of employees including supervisors and senior management.
  • Develop and oversee process safety management (PSM) programs and ensure full compliance.
  • Direct industrial hygiene, occupational health, and general safety programs to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop emergency response and crisis management plans, and conduct drills and tabletop exercises as needed. Provide direct assistance, coordination, and support for food defense, security, and crisis response issues.
  • Oversee site security personnel, programs, protocols, access controls, risk assessments, and incident response activities to support a safe and secure workplace.
  • Coordinate with the company’s workers’ compensation insurer and internal stakeholders on workplace injury claims, investigations, return-to-work efforts, and loss-prevention initiatives.
