Position Summary:

The Expanded Function Dental Assistant supports the dentists at the health center by assisting with clinical care and patient education.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Years of Experience: One to two years’ experience as an expanded function dental assistant preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Current Pennsylvania State License required

Current Certification for radiology is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Strong clinical skills including assisting at chairside and placement of restorations, sealants, etc.

Strong patient service skills

Good written and verbal communication in English

Basic computer skills

Ability to place adult and pediatric patients at ease

Strong teamwork skills

Able to file alphabetically and numerically

Ability to meet approved minimal physical and medical standards

Scope of Responsibilities:

Greets patients and accompanies to and from waiting room

Inquiries into reason for the patient’s visit

Takes x-rays and dental impressions

Assist dentist at chairside with examination

Place restorations, sealants, etc.

Maintain order and cleanliness in operatories

Maintains equipment and orders supplies as needed

Communicates appropriate information to the client professionally and accurately

Understanding of policies and procedures of organization to relate to patients, when necessary

Document care in patient record, obtains reviews and updates health histories

Completes other duties as requested by supervisor
