Experienced Tower Climber Top Hand Technician – Position Overview

As an experienced Top Hand Tower Technician at STG Communications, you play a critical role in installing, maintaining, and repairing wireless communication towers and equipment. Your work ensures the reliability and functionality of our wireless infrastructure while upholding safety standards and delivering high-quality results. This position requires working at great heights, in varying weather conditions, and often involves travel and irregular hours. Your commitment to safety, teamwork, and technical excellence directly impacts the success of our projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Climb and work on communication towers up to 500 feet daily.
  • Install, test, and maintain cellular network components, including coax, radio, fiber, antennas, and related equipment.
  • Perform maintenance or repair work on existing tower equipment using hand and power tools.
  • Operate and maintain testing and survey equipment, such as sweeps, PIM, fiber, and microwave tools.
  • Transport equipment to work sites using utility trucks and equipment trailers.
  • Provide technical support by working with vendors’ service centers and technicians to resolve issues.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards, including inspecting climbing gear and tools before use.
  • Work in various inclement weather conditions while maintaining a safe job site.
  • Travel throughout the U.S. regularly and be available for evening, weekend, and rotational assignments, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Provide support and assistance to the foreman and assume additional responsibilities as directed.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Climb towers and perform installations, repairs, or inspections of wireless communication components.
  • Conduct safety checks on climbing gear and tools before each use.
  • Use testing equipment to ensure the proper functioning of installed or repaired systems.
  • Load, transport, and unload equipment and materials needed for each job site.
  • Communicate with the foreman and team members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
  • Complete job site documentation and maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Travel to various job sites, often requiring extended stays away from home.

Requirements

  • Proven telecom construction experience with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile line and antenna site work.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Have a valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Work in all weather elements.
  • Ability to travel at least 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed.
  • Receive and follow directions.
  • Good communication skills.
