T-Mobile is searching for an impactful Field Technician in the Western Idaho & Oregon Highlands to join us in taking the next big leap forward!

You should possess a balance of wireless industry exposure, coupled with the ability to be independent and cover a wide area of sites in our market. You will be a generalist, encompassing aspects of technical support, project management, and operational support while being a responsible teammate.

We are a team that encourages innovation and advocates an agile and open approach, truly working and playing in the Un-carrier way!

T-Mobile is seeking a motivated and skilled Field Technician to support our Engineering & Operations team across the Boise metro area and including western Idaho, extending east into the Magic Valley and west into eastern Oregon.

This territory covers roughly 200 sites. They run from the Treasure Valley north through the West Central Mountains and east along the Snake River Plain, and across the border into Baker, Malheur, and Union counties in Oregon. Most sites are in the Treasure Valley, so expect a mix of urban and suburban work along with long rural drives. I-84 serves as the primary travel corridor connecting much of the territory. The role calls for travel across mountain passes, high desert, and farmland in all seasons, and the eastern Oregon counties — particularly remote areas of Malheur — involve significant drive times on open desert highways. Winter mountain driving in the McCall, Cascade, and Council, Idaho areas are common.

The Field Technician role involves applying technical knowledge to maintain and improve network performance and reliability. It involves providing technical assistance, managing smaller projects, and contributing to operational process improvements. The role requires understanding of radio access networks, backhaul, signaling, disaster recovery, data services, and location-based services. Success is measured by effective technical support, timely project updates, and identification of process improvements. The work directly impacts network stability and service quality for organizational and customer needs.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to resolve network performance issues and contribute to outage resolution efforts
  • Manage smaller projects or project segments, delivering accurate status and progress updates as required
  • Identify and recommend process improvements related to maintenance and repair activities to senior staff and management
  • Assist in developing job aids, scopes of work, and procedural documentation in collaboration with senior technicians
  • Complete required training to maintain current knowledge of systems, products, and organizational standards
  • Also responsible for other duties/projects as assigned by business management as needed

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree OR combination of education and experience deemed equivalent (Required)
  • Acceptable areas of study include Vocational/Technical Training or related field (Preferred)
  • 2-4 years - Working experience in Field Operations and maintenance.
  • 2-4 years - Wireless telecommunications or other related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Electronics (Required)
  • Basic operational knowledge and theory of all interconnecting circuits to include but not limited to RF transmitters, antenna systems, AAV, fiber, microwave radio and AC-DC power systems, and AI. Experience with backup power systems including generators, battery plants, and rectifiers is a plus, given the wide geographic coverage and remote site access in this territory.
  • Radio Access Network (RAN) – Practical knowledge of RAN architecture, components, and operations, with the ability to support deployment, maintenance, and optimization activities. (Required)
  • Experience with Ericsson RAN technology is a plus.
  • Wireless Backhaul – Understanding of wireless backhaul technologies and configurations used to connect cell sites to the core network, including microwave and fiber-based solutions. (Required)
  • Licensed Microwave and millimeter-wave wireless transport technology – Ceragon and Ericsson experience is a plus
  • Experience with Nokia cell site routers and IP backhaul configuration is a plus.
  • 5G New Radio (NR) – Demonstrated experience with, or the ability to learn, Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment and 5G NR standards as they apply to field operations. (Required)
  • Base Station – Working knowledge of base station equipment, installation, configuration, and maintenance as it relates to network performance and reliability. (Required)
  • Continuous Development – Candidates are expected to actively grow their skills through ongoing training, certifications, and hands-on experience in an ever-evolving telecommunications landscape. (Required)
  • Disaster Recovery Planning – Familiarity with disaster recovery protocols and the ability to implement contingency plans to restore network services with minimal disruption. This includes experience responding to outages caused by severe weather events, wildfires, and power failures — conditions common to this territory — often requiring after-hours coordination with NOC teams, utilities, and vendors. (Required)
  • Network Troubleshooting – Ability to systematically identify, diagnose, and resolve network issues across a range of hardware and software systems in both planned and emergency scenarios. (Required)
  • Project Management – Ability to plan, coordinate, and complete field assignments efficiently, managing time, resources, and priorities to meet deadlines and service commitments. (Required)
  • Technical Support – Ability to provide hands-on technical assistance and field-level support to internal teams and partners, ensuring timely resolution of equipment and network issues. (Required)
  • Attention To Detail (Required)
  • Problem Solving / Troubleshooting - Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across a large, remote geography with minimal supervision. Must be comfortable making autonomous decisions in the field, often without immediate access to senior staff or support resources. (Required)
  • Computer Fluency – Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and similar productivity tools. Includes an understanding of Internet Protocol and a willingness to incorporate AI-driven tools when preparing and triaging solutions for logical network components. (Required)
  • Proficiency with fiber optic test equipment, including EXFO test sets, as well as line, antenna, and spectrum analyzer tools used in field operations. (Preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. (Preferred)
  • Self-motivated; exhibits initiative in achieving company goals and objectives. (Preferred)
  • Basic leadership skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks. (Preferred)
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment. (Preferred)
  • Flexibility with ever-changing environments and priorities. (Preferred)
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle — including towing equipment trailers — in adverse conditions including mountain passes, high desert terrain, snow, and ice. Candidates with experience navigating remote and rural roads in all seasons are strongly preferred. (Preferred)
  • Flexible hours are a must. Day and night work is part of the job, as well as being part of an on-call rotation for the market, which includes weekends and holidays. (Required)
  • Ability to lift 50-70 pounds as well as being outside in the elements is an expected
