A Day in the Life

The job provides the candidate with continuous training and long-term career growth development opportunities with a leading global medical device and technology company. Medtronic SEA (excl. SGP/MYS) is one of the developing markets in Medtronic. The role provides the successful candidate with unique professional experiences and tremendous exposure to:

  • Medtronic SEA countries (excl. SGP/MYS) business areas and support functions
  • Medtronic SEA countries (excl. SGP/MYS), regional, and global controllership as well as other global finance functions
  • Other Medtronic internal and external stakeholders

As the Financial Controller, you will provide leadership and oversight for financial reporting and internal controls, internal & statutory audits, finance policy and tax compliance for Medtronic SEA countries (excl. SGP/MYS) across Operator, Steward, Catalyst, and Strategist areas of responsibility Key responsibilities, exposure and career prospects

1. Operator:

Deliver financial closing and reporting in compliance with US GAAP and in scope countries’ statutory financial standards

Review and sign off balance sheet account reconciliations and attest balance sheet controls

Ensure timely statutory and regulatory reporting, including audits and tax filings

Lead and provide accounting services across value-streams to business areas with support from shared services center and BPO

Provide oversight and collaborate with Treasury functions for local entity banking, funding, and foreign exchange management

Provide oversight and collaborate with Tax functions for local entity corporate tax, indirect tax, transfer price tax etc. areas of compliance

Provide oversight and collaborate with Credit functions for credit and collections

2. Steward:

Be the finance owner of company finance policy and internal controls

Implement and oversee SOX control framework and deliverables

Be the finance owner of statutory financial control compliance with regards to in scope countries’ Company Act and internal Audit/Internal Control requirements

Provide fiduciary oversight for the in scope countries’ legal entity, in support of the local entity board of directors, working closely with the company secretary function and legal function

Be an active gatekeeper to provide oversight on company assets.

Drive and support internal audit corrective and preventive actions

3. Catalyst / Strategist:

Support in scope country initiatives ensuring sound accounting and tax compliance advice to achieve business results the right way

Support global finance and accounting initiatives including new accounting standards implementation

Deliver continuous process improvements and best practices across accounting value streams, leveraging shared services center and BPO support

Participate in cross functional initiatives with a focus on improving the control environment, collaborating with other finance functions (business finance, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Credit) and other support functions (Pricing, Indirect Sourcing, Legal, Compliance, Channel, Regulatory etc.)

Identify and contribute to working capital and free cashflow improvements

Proactively involved in business planning and legal/compliance reviews to identify, assess and address controllership, financial & tax risks

Lead and develop a high performing and inclusive team recognized by functional colleagues and stakeholders

Be a role model in supporting and driving inclusion, diversity, equity and ethics initiatives

Required knowledge, experience and educational level

Required

University degree in accounting or finance or relevant discipline

Accounting qualification (e.g. CA, CPA, ACCA, CIMA etc)

Progressive track record with 12+ years working experience with MNCs, minimum 5 years+ experience in SEA countries (excl. SGP/MYS)

3-5 years+ people manager experience preferred

Extensive knowledge about financial and management accounting. US GAAP and/or IFRS exposure will be important.

In-depth understanding of in scope countries’ Financial Reporting Standards and other relevant regulations e.g. the Company Act, tax and audit regulations

Handson experience in dealing with in scope countries direct, indirect tax, transfer price compliance subjects, statutory auditors, and regulatory agencies

Effective interpersonal, influential, collaboration and presentation skills

Strong data analytical and reporting skills

Proven people and team development and leadership skills

Preferred

Strong technical experience preferably in SAP FI modules with deep process knowledge across various finance and accounting value streams (R2R, P2P, EE, OTC, Fixed Assets, Inventory/intercompany)

Experience in internal/SOX control framework implementation and improvement

Proven records in process improvements and ability to establish process excellence / best practices

Strong ability to partner with sales and commercial teams and business in the areas of accounts receivable/DSO management, credit risk control, and collections

Strong partnership ability in supporting business area initiatives providing sound accounting and compliance advice to commercial and cross functional business partners

Working knowledge of SAP BW reporting / data automation skills

Project Management / Process improvement / change management certifications

Timely closure of internal/external/SOX audit items

Contribute to working capital / FCF (free cash flow) including cost savings, policy compliance, AR/DSO, Accounts Payable

# of continuous improvement projects and hours savings

Optimized entity FX, cashflow, and debt & equity structure

High team engagement and positive stakeholder feedback
