Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Bassett Army Community Hospital to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska

Duties

  • Serve as a cashier, operating the Point of Sale cash register system, collecting cash from customers, making exact change, and safe guarding cash according to established procedures.
  • Help deliver loaded food carts to the hospital wards for meal service to the patients meeting meal delivery times in accordance with section standards.
  • Manually or using mechanical equipment, wash heavy pots and pans, dishes, trays, and serviceware from the kitchen, dining room, catering functions and patient care units.
  • Clean and sanitize dishroom and pot and pan areas to include countertops, dishwashing machine, dish racks, tray return, scrapping sinks floors, and pot and pan machine.
  • Disassemble trays returned from dining area, and dispose of waste in accordance with established safety and sanitation procedures.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. -I have the ability to perform the common duties of a Food Service Worker. I can follow established safety and sanitation procedures in a kitchen. I can operate, breakdown, or clean various types of food service equipment. I have knowledge in simple food handling procedures, and can follow instructions to portion, garnish, or serve food. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves moderate physical effort. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds, e.g., lifting individual dishes or trays in serving or cleaning tables; lifting trays or clean dishes. Lifts filled milk containers weighing up to 55 pounds to heights of three (3) feet. Is constantly standing and walking. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen and dining areas. Steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted, but usually noisy from food service activities and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Subject to prolonged periods of standing. Must abide by personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures such as wearing a hairnet or hat and a clean uniform daily.
