Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."
We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.
Fraud Operations plays an important role in protecting BNZ and our customers from fraud and scams. Our team analyses emerging crime trends and develops strategies, detection rules and scenarios to help us respond to an increasingly complex fraud and scams landscape.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Fraud Investigator to join our Fraud Operations team. You’ll investigate complex and sometimes ambiguous situations, identify patterns and draw clear, evidence-based conclusions, while supporting customers through what can be a particularly difficult experience.
We’re looking for someone with at least five years’ work experience, including a minimum of two years’ experience in fraud and scam investigations, financial crime or a related field. You’ll be a critical thinker with strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to navigate challenging conversations.

Strong written communication skills are essential for this role. A key part of your mahi will be taking complex information and turning it into clear, concise and well-structured written reports that can be easily understood and relied upon by senior leaders across the Bank.

What are the hours of mahi?
This role can be based in Auckland or Wellington, with a minimum of three days in the office. Daily hours are rostered either 9:30am to 5:30pm (30-minute lunch) or 9:30am to 6:00pm (one-hour lunch), Monday to Friday.
What is the tīma culture and environment like?
We are a tīma of talented individuals where everyone is willing to pitch in and help out to meet the demands of an ever-changing environment.
The tīma is supportive and collaborative, with people going out of their way to help each other. There is a wealth of experience across the team, and people are generous in sharing their knowledge and insights. It’s a fast-paced and challenging environment where you’ll have plenty of opportunity to learn.
What is your management style?
I believe in trust and autonomy, while providing a supportive environment where people can grow and do their best work.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
Everything we do has the potential to positively impact our customers. You’ll have the opportunity to continually adapt and learn, supported by talented people who enjoy sharing their knowledge, teaching others and providing tautoko.
What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?
You’ll often be supporting customers through the aftermath of a fraud or scam experience, which can involve difficult conversations and delivering outcomes that customers may not always want to hear. Being able to communicate clearly, professionally and with empathy is an important part of the role.
