About the Role

Maersk Oil Trading is looking for a Fuel Trader to join our New York trading team. In this global role, you will help secure reliable and cost-effective fuel supply for the Maersk fleet while supporting the continued development of our trading activities across the Americas.

You will have the opportunity to contribute across back-to-back bunker trading, physical cargo trading, and self-supply activities, depending on your experience and strengths. Working closely with traders, physical operators, risk, legal, Maersk Ocean, and our broader global Energy Markets organization, you will help manage traditional marine fuels as well as sustainable alternatives including biofuels, methanol, and LNG.

This is an opportunity to join a lean, collaborative team where you can take meaningful ownership, contribute ideas from your previous experience, and continue building your commercial and technical capabilities in an international trading environment.

What We Offer

This is an exciting career opportunity to work in a truly international company that makes global trade happen. You will be interacting daily with passionate colleagues around the world, giving you the opportunity to develop your professional skills in a global environment. Through the training and support we provide and learning on the job, you will have the chance to truly take your career all the way.

  • Join a global energy trading organization managing more than 12 million metric tonnes of fuel annually.
  • Gain exposure to back-to-back trading, physical cargoes, storage, blending, barging, and self-supply activities.
  • Work within a collaborative, open-office environment alongside trading, operations, risk, and legal professionals.
  • Build an international network across Maersk’s Energy Markets, Energy Transition, and Ocean organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trade physical cargoes, including FOB, DAP, and CIF transactions, across low-sulphur fuels, high-sulphur fuels, biofuels, methanol, and LNG in the Americas.
  • Execute back-to-back bunker transactions to support fuel demand across the Maersk fleet.
  • Support self-supply activities, including cargo purchasing, storage, blending, quality management, and fuel delivery.
  • Develop and expand Maersk’s third-party bunker business and identify new commercial opportunities.
  • Negotiate competitive purchase and delivery terms while balancing cost, quality, logistics, and operational risk.
  • Build trusted relationships with Maersk Ocean, global trading colleagues, suppliers, owners, charterers, and external market partners.
  • Collaborate with operations, risk, legal, and other internal teams to resolve complex challenges and ensure reliable execution.

Who We Are Looking For

We recognize that experience comes in many forms. If you don’t meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.

  • You bring several years of relevant experience in fuel trading, bunker trading, fuel marketing, cargo trading, or a closely related commercial or operational role.
  • You understand the international bunker or marine fuels market, including suppliers, ports, owners, charterers, logistics, and relevant regulations.
  • You can evaluate market opportunities, negotiate commercial terms, and support the safe and cost-effective delivery of fuel.
  • You are comfortable working independently while contributing actively within a lean, collaborative, and fast-moving team.
  • You bring strong commercial judgment, personal integrity, and the initiative to help grow the business.
  • You communicate fluently in English and can work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across global time zones.
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills are advantageous, particularly when engaging with partners across Latin America, but are not required.
