Full Stack AI Engineer, DataTalk

Description

Volanno is seeking a part-time (approximately a maximum of 20 hours per week working Monday-Friday) Full Stack AI Engineer with 1–2 years of professional software development experience to help build and improve DataTalk, our conversational analytics platform. DataTalk allows users to ask questions in plain language and receive answers, tables, and visualizations grounded in their data.

You will work closely with our lead developer on features, testing, integrations, and performance improvements. The primary focus is DataTalk, with opportunities to support other Volanno AI and data projects as priorities and scheduled hours allow.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

· Help develop features across DataTalk’s React frontend, Python/FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL database, and AI components.

· Improve natural-language query handling, retrieval, and the accuracy of answers and visualizations.

· Assist with customer onboarding workflows, data connectors, and data ingestion.

· Support security improvements, including authentication, access controls, customer data isolation, and query safeguards.

· Troubleshoot bugs, improve performance, and maintain automated tests and AI evaluations.

· Collaborate with the lead developer and project manager to scope assignments, review code, document changes, and deliver updates.

· Help resolve pilot customer issues and incorporate feedback into product improvements.

Required Technical Skills

· Working proficiency in Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, and SQL.

· Experience building interfaces with React, HTML/CSS, and API integrations.

· Experience developing or maintaining REST APIs using FastAPI or a comparable framework.

· Hands-on experience integrating an LLM API or building an AI-powered application.

· Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and basic data cleaning and transformation.

· Familiarity with Git, debugging, automated testing, and secure coding practices.

Required Experience and Attributes

· 1–2 years of professional software development experience.

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

· Ability to complete defined development tasks with guidance from the lead developer.

· Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.

· Clear communication and reliable follow-through within an agreed part-time schedule.

· U.S. work authorization and ability to meet applicable federal client background investigation and Public Trust requirements, if assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

· Familiarity with AWS, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, logging, or monitoring.

· Exposure to retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases, or natural-language-to-SQL systems.

· Experience with pandas, data pipelines, or visualization tools such as Plotly or Recharts.

· Familiarity with multi-tenant applications, authentication, or role-based access controls.

· Experience testing AI outputs for accuracy and consistency.

· Interest in analytics, government projects, or transportation and aviation data.
