General Laborers

We are currently looking for experienced General Laborers in the Tucson area to join our team and support the day-to-day operations of our construction projects. Will perform tasks involving physical labor at highway and heavy construction projects. May operate hand and power tools of all types. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clear rubble and debris. May assist other craft workers.

Responsibilities

• •Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy highway construction projects.
• •Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards; work with specific consideration to safety; do not enter unprotected excavation.
• •Become familiar with the project to determine work activities.
• •Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
• •Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
• •Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, tampers and rakes.
• •Position, join, align, and seal structural components, such as concrete wall sections and pipes.
• •Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
• •Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
• •Erect and disassemble shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps and other temporary structures.
• •Build and position forms for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts.
• •Attend weekly safety meetings.
• •Provide support wherever and whenever needed to complete the job successfully, safely, and on time.
• •Review daily work activities and productions needed to make and exceed the budget with supervisor.
• •Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
• •Report faulty equipment or any unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
• •Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• •High school diploma or equivalent
• •Experience in construction or related industry preferred
• •Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• •Ability to follow directions and work independently or as part of a team
• •Knowledge of the materials, methods and tools involved in the construction of highways and roads.
• •Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective safety and protection of people and property.
• •Strong communication and active listening skills.
• •Multilimbed coordination such as the ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting or standing.
• •Hearing sufficient to be aware of back-up alarms and equipment moving on jobsites.
• •Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
• •Possible excessive hours during short durations.
• •May include some weekend and evening work, depending on project.
• •Working outdoors in AZ climate.
