Description

Responsible to assist in the oversight of all horse-related camps and activities, including cabin leaders, activities, program development, health and safety, training, some horse riding programs, classes, barn, pasture, and equipment management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Stable & Facility Management

  • Barn/facility maintenance and cleaning.
  • Pasture maintenance and cleaning.
  • Must take part in the fire evacuation plan for the specific area assigned.

Health/Management of the Campers

  • Provide essential care of the campers and work in concert with PCCC Horsemanship Director.
  • Oversee meals and cleaning of the dining hall for campers.
  • Maintain medical record and medications for campers.
  • Report supply needs to Horsemanship Director (cabin supplies, medical, etc.)

Safety

  • Notice and correct safety hazards to campers and staff.
  • Be able to know when an activity is unsafe for campers.
  • Report to the Horsemanship Director campers having difficulties or are not feeling well.
  • Enforce all camp rules and safety procedures daily.

Activities

  • Ride horses as needed.
  • Teach and model rules and techniques at each activity
  • Stay on schedule.
  • Report any activity equipment needs to the Horsemanship Director.

Cabins

  • Welcome and orient campers.
  • Keep cabins clean and orderly.
  • Make the cabins safe and the cabin times safer.
  • Prepare campers for their lessons and get them ready for the day.
  • Conduct a safe, enjoyable, and successful camp.

Program Camps

  • Assist in the direction of activities at the barn, activities and cabins during Horse Camp.
  • Responsible for keeping campers on task.
  • Help develop night activities and campfire times.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the program curriculum.
  • Assist with the Showdeo as directed by the Horsemanship Director.
  • Welcomes and greets parents and oversees the safety of family members at the facility.
  • Works in conjunction with the Horsemanship Director to develop existing and new theme ideas.
  • Participates in program camp activities as directed.
  • Is in direct communication with Horsemanship Director.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, exercising personal faith through consistent daily living in accordance with God’s Word.
  • Understands the mission of Palomar Christian Conference Center and is in agreement with its Statement of Faith, and submits all other goals and desires to that main goal.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possesses interpersonal skills such as are required to maintain positive relations with both staff and guests.
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills and presents a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Possesses strong attention to detail and organization while managing multiple priorities.
  • Is proficient in basic Microsoft applications (Windows, Office, etc.)
  • Must have (3) three years prior work experience in a related field.
  • Must have extensive horse experience and understand horse behavior.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and move a minimum of 100 lbs.

Typical Work Schedule

As a FLSA Exempt position, the Head Wrangler may be expected to work more than 8 hours a day, depending on the needs and schedules of the campers.
