Governance Lead The Opportunity:

Help shape how a large federal agency responsibly adopts artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to advance its mission. As the AI Governance Lead, you will assist in driving the development of enterprise policies, governance frameworks, and implementation guidance that enable innovation while addressing operational, legal, privacy, civil rights, and security considerations.

You will work at the intersection of technology, policy, and mission delivery, advising federal executives and collaborating with technical teams to translate complex requirements into clear, actionable guidance. This role requires a strategic thinker who can build consensus across a decentralized organization, communicate effectively with various audiences, and guide governance initiatives from initial concept through enterprise adoption.

What You’ll Work On:

  • Assist in leading enterprise AI policy development, including assisting in developing and maintaining policies, standards, procedures, and implementation guidance for the acquisition, development, deployment, use, monitoring, and retirement of AI and emerging technologies.
  • Design practical governance processes and establish decision rights, review boards, approval workflows, escalation paths, and exception processes that clarify accountability and support timely, risk-informed decisions.
  • Translate requirements into implementation and assess applicable federal requirements and agency priorities, identify gaps, and coordinate with legal, privacy, civil rights, cybersecurity, acquisition, and technology stakeholders to develop actionable guidance.
  • Address emerging AI capabilities and develop governance approaches for generative AI, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation, third-party models, and AI embedded in enterprise applications, including expectations for human oversight, evaluation, and acceptable use.
  • Connect policy to technical practices and partner with engineering, architecture, data, and cloud teams to define implementable requirements for AI inventories and model registries, evaluation, access controls, guardrails, monitoring, and supporting evidence.
  • Build executive alignment and organizational consensus.
  • Facilitate working groups, resolve competing stakeholder priorities, and prepare executive briefings, decision memoranda, and recommendations that explain options, tradeoffs, and mission implications.
  • Measure governance effectiveness, establish performance measures, assess adoption and compliance, identify implementation barriers, and recommend improvements based on operational feedback, assessments, and changes in technology.

Join us. The world can’t wait.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology governance, technology policy, enterprise risk, or digital transformation
  • 3+ years of experience in AI governance or AI policy
  • Experience assisting in leading enterprise technology policy or governance initiatives for a federal agency or a complex, regulated organization and assisting with authoring and implementing AI policies, standards, governance frameworks, or operational guidance
  • Experience advising senior executives, assisting with producing concise, decision-oriented briefings, policy documents, and recommendations, and developing communication, training, or organizational change strategies that support adoption of new policies and technology practices
  • Experience designing governance structures and processes, including review boards, risk assessments, approval criteria, accountability models, and exception management
  • Knowledge of AI and generative AI capabilities, limitations, and risks, including model evaluation, data quality, bias, explainability, human oversight, and ongoing monitoring
  • Ability to interpret federal policy and oversight requirements, translate them into clear responsibilities, decision processes, and implementation expectations, and coordinate across technical teams, mission organizations, and oversight functions to resolve issues and implement enterprise guidance
  • Ability to lead complex initiatives independently, manage competing priorities, and influence stakeholders across organizational boundaries
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
