About CEA

The Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) stewards the movement of people putting effective altruism principles into practice to solve the world's most pressing problems. We’re working to build a flourishing future by applying evidence, reason, and compassion to challenges like global poverty, animal suffering, and risks from transformative AI.

Our work centers on growing and supporting a global community of people who rigorously analyze where they can do the most good – and take action on those insights. Current strategic priorities include increasing understanding of effective altruism and its principles, growing the number of people who are motivated by EA principles to take significant action to address pressing problems, and diversifying funding sources for high-impact work.

We had significant success in 2025, building momentum within CEA. Our headcount grew from 42 to 66 core staff. Program participation (e.g., events, courses, groups) grew by 20-25% year over year. We merged with EA Funds and are rapidly scaling up our capacity for grantmaking and associated fundraising.

In 2026, we’ve maintained ambitious momentum while building the foundations for a step-change in the wider EA ecosystem’s growth trajectory from 2027 onwards. We’re in the midst of the best fundraising year in CEA’s history and are looking for the right talent to help us take advantage of the many opportunities in front of us.

About the Grants Team

CEA makes grants to high-impact projects, individuals, and organizations through programs such as EA Funds , EAGx event grants, CEA community building grants , and groups support funding . Our grantmaking team manages the systems that move money from donors to projects, focusing on efficient processing, compliance with grantmaking requirements, accurate records, and a positive experience for grantees.

About the role

We’re hiring a Grants Associate to help expand our capacity and strengthen the systems that move money from donors to high-impact projects. In this role, you’ll be a key point of contact for both grant recipients and internal grant evaluators, administering our grants management system and keeping rounds moving smoothly.

Day to day, you’ll maintain efficient grant processing, support a clear end-to-end experience for grantees, and manage grant records to keep our data reliable and up to date. You’ll also help improve how our grantmaking operates over time, refining and scaling the processes the team relies on.

You’ll work closely with our Grants Lead, Becky Lang, and play a central role in making sure our processes are responsive, robust, and easy to use. We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and has a strong customer service mindset. Prior operations experience is helpful (and grant administration experience is a plus), but we’re also open to entry-level candidates who can get up to speed quickly and work carefully through routine tasks. If you’re successful in the role, you’ll help move millions of dollars to high-impact work.

Key Responsibilities

Process grants through our Salesforce grants management system

Communicate with grant recipients to solve issues and give them a smooth experience

Conduct due diligence on all grant recipients to ensure grants are compliant with relevant law and our policies

Review grantee reports in keeping with relevant law and our policies

Maintain accurate record keeping for all grants

Run monitoring and reporting, to track impact

What we’re looking for

You might be a great fit for this role if you are:

Highly organised: This role requires keeping track of many grants, and you’ll need to keep the balance between providing a fast turnaround while ensuring all grants adhere to our grantmaking policies

A clear and friendly communicator: You’ll be frequently interacting with our grant recipients so you will need to have excellent interpersonal skills and a ‘customer service’ attitude

Committed: We’re looking for someone who is excited to learn the ins and outs of our systems and who wants to commit for at least two years

Mission-driven: Our ideal candidate is passionate about the mission and values of CEA

(bonus) Experienced with grant administration or using Salesforce: while not a requirement, it will help you get up to speed more quickly

Other information

This is a full-time, remote position . We prefer applicants who are able to work in time zones between US Pacific Time and CET.

Start date : We'd ideally have you start as soon as possible, but we can be flexible on timeline.

Reports to: Becky Lang, Grants Lead

Benefits globally include private health insurance, flexible work hours, a $6,000 annual professional development allowance, a $6,000 mental health support allowance, extended parental leave, ergonomic equipment, 25 days of paid vacation, and more.
