The role oversees compliance with federal and state laws governing telemarketing, teleservices, messaging, and privacy, as well as the rules that apply to contact center software providers and the carriers that carry our customers’ traffic. It also supports day-to-day legal needs, including contract review and routine legal questions, and works with outside counsel on specialized or high-risk matters. The role partners with senior leadership, Sales, Marketing, Product, IT/Security, Finance, and Carrier Relations, and works directly with customers, regulators, and telco carriers to reduce risk and resolve issues early.

What You'll Be Doing:

Please note that the duties may vary depending on department size, organizational structure and/or geographic location. Other duties will be assigned as required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to allow differently abled individuals to perform the essential functions of the job.

Develop, maintain, and enforce compliance policies and procedures covering federal and state law, contractual obligations (including carrier and vendor requirements), and industry best practices, including:

Telephone solicitation, autodialer (ADAD), and other state registration requirements

Do Not Call (federal, state, and internal lists) and reassigned number considerations

Consent and revocation requirements, including TCPA and state “mini-TCPA” laws

Calling hour and day restrictions, abandoned call rates, and predictive dialer rules

Prerecorded, artificial, and AI-generated voice messages and required disclosures

Text messaging (CTIA Messaging Principles & Best Practices and 10DLC/A2P carrier requirements)

Caller ID, STIR/SHAKEN, and Robocall Mitigation Plan obligations

Call recording and consent laws

Advertising and marketing compliance

Customer due diligence (Know Your Customer)

Complaint handling, record retention, and employee compliance training

Consumer privacy (CCPA/CPRA and other state frameworks) and data security, in coordination with IT/Security

Monitor changes in federal and state law, FCC and FTC rulemaking, and carrier requirements, with outside counsel as needed, and update the compliance program and policies promptly.

Run Know Your Customer onboarding for new customers and periodic compliance audits of existing customers, including calling practices, lead sources, and consent records.

Identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risk; conduct internal investigations of potential violations; and implement corrective actions.

Track metrics that show whether compliance controls are working, and report key risks and trends to senior leadership.

Customers, Carriers, and Regulators

Advise customers on outbound calling and messaging compliance, and provide training and best practices to help them reduce risk.

Work with the Carrier Relations team to address carrier complaints, traffic blocking, and call labeling issues tied to customer activity, and drive them to quick resolution.

Serve as the central point of contact for compliance questions, complaints, and regulatory inquiries, including Industry Traceback Group (ITG) traceback requests and responses to regulators.

Product and Business Partnership

Advise the Product team on designing compliance features, such as consent management, DNC scrubbing, calling-time controls, and dialer safeguards, and on the compliance implications of new product and AI capabilities.

Review marketing, sales, and customer-facing materials for advertising, privacy, and compliance issues.

Ensure policies are current, accessible, and understood by employees through training and clear communication.

Legal Counsel (General)

Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including customer MSAs and order forms, vendor and carrier agreements, NDAs, data processing agreements, and partner agreements; maintain standard templates and contract playbooks.

Provide day-to-day legal guidance to Sales, Finance, Revenue Operations, HR, and other teams on contract terms, customer disputes, and routine legal questions.

Support responses to legal process such as subpoenas and legal holds, and support privacy requests, security questionnaires, and customer audit requests.

Assist with corporate housekeeping and commercial-risk matters (for example, insurance and IP/trademark matters) as needed.

Select, manage, and coordinate outside counsel for litigation, regulatory enforcement, and other specialized matters, and manage legal spend.

Other duties as assigned.
