If you're ready to solve complex problems at scale, we'd love to have you join us.

  • Role Title: Head of Compliance (Shipping, Dangerous Goods)
  • Location: Chicago
  • Reporting to: Director of Operations
  • Who We're Looking For:
  • Easyship is a global shipping technology platform connecting sellers and marketplaces to couriers, helping businesses ship to nearly 200 destinations worldwide. As we continue to grow, maintaining strong shipment safety and regulatory compliance is essential to protecting our network, customers, and carrier relationships.

We're looking for an experienced Head of Shipping Compliance & Dangerous Goods to lead our dangerous goods, prohibited items, and dual-use goods compliance programmes. You'll own the policies, controls, inspections, and incident-response processes that ensure shipments are safe, compliant, and accepted by our carrier partners.

You'll also build and lead our inspection teams, working closely with Operations, Product, Engineering, Legal, and courier partners to strengthen screening processes and balance regulatory compliance with operational efficiency and business growth.

What would you be responsible for:

Leading Easyship's end-to-end dangerous goods (DG) compliance programme, ensuring prohibited and restricted items are identified and prevented from entering our network.

Developing and maintaining DG policies and screening rules aligned with IATA DGR, IMDG, ADR, and carrier requirements.

Ensuring relevant teams meet all DG training, certification, and recertification requirements.

Defining and maintaining prohibited and restricted-item policies, aligned with carrier requirements and applicable international regulations.

Managing controls for dual-use and export-controlled goods, partnering with the Head of Trade, Duty & Tax Compliance on sanctions and export controls.

Working with Product and Engineering to improve automated screening and detection capabilities, including AI and LLM technologies.

Making decisions on escalated shipments and establishing clear criteria for holding, rejecting, or reporting non-compliant items.

Building and managing pre-inspection and on-site inspection teams, setting performance targets, training plans, and career development pathways.

Establishing inspection protocols, escalation procedures, and incident-response processes across global warehouse and fulfilment facilities.

Managing inspection quality, staffing, coverage, and throughput while balancing compliance with operational efficiency.

Partnering with courier and carrier partners on DG policies, restricted-item lists, audits, incidents, and compliance reviews.

Managing carrier claims and penalties, while working with merchants to address repeat non-compliance.

Collaborating with Customer Success and Marketing to educate merchants on restricted and prohibited goods.

Monitoring DG incidents, near-misses, and compliance trends, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Maintaining compliance risk registers and reporting KPIs, inspection performance, and programme updates to leadership.

Delivering shipment safety and restricted-item training, while managing relationships with external consultants, auditors, and regulatory bodies.

You Might Be a Good Fit If:

You have 7+ years of experience in dangerous goods, shipping, or logistics compliance, including 3+ years in a leadership role.

You have experience building and managing DG compliance programmes, with knowledge of IATA DGR, IMDG, and/or ADR regulations.

You understand prohibited goods, restricted items, dual-use goods, and export controls.

You have experience managing carrier audits, compliance reviews, incident investigations, and corrective actions (CAPA).

You are familiar with automated screening and detection tools, including AI and LLM technologies.

You can translate regulatory requirements into practical operational processes, screening rules, and product improvements.

You have experience leading inspection or operational teams, ideally in logistics, warehousing, fulfilment, or freight.

You hold relevant DG certifications (IATA DGR, IMDG, ADR, or DGSA) and have experience delivering compliance training.

You have strong communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work across global teams.

You are proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing compliance, operational efficiency, and business growth in a fast-paced environment.
