We are seeking a proactive and experienced Head Porter to lead our portering team and support the delivery of high-quality facilities services across the hospital. In this hands-on leadership role, you will coordinate day-to-day portering operations, ensure the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, supplies, and waste while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
As a Head Porter, you will:
- Lead, supervise, and support the Portering Team.
- Manage rotas, annual leave, training, and performance.
- Ensure the safe transport of patients, equipment, furniture, and supplies.
- Coordinate waste, laundry, stock, post, and courier services.
- Support conference room setups, office moves, and reception cover when required.
- Assist with building security, parking patrols, and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, infection control, and data protection requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and complete all required documentation.
About You
- Previous experience in a portering, facilities, logistics, or support services role.
- Experience supervising or leading a team.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong customer service focus.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.

Located in Jesmond; you will be working at one of the north easts leading private hospitals, with a Good CQC rating, we have 27 en-suite private bedrooms, 3 state-of-the-art operating theatres, a dedicated breast care unit. We offer on-site pathology services and diagnostic imaging including CT and MRI, to help patients after surgery we have on-site physiotherapy specialists. We have a special focus in the areas of orthopaedics, spinal surgery, ophthalmology, weight loss surgery and cosmetic treatment.
