POSITION TITLE: Health Center Driver
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Tribal Health
SUPERVISOR: Transportation Manager or Designee
GRADE: NE7 $15.29 ($31,803.20) - $22.94 ($47,715.20)
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision the Health Center Driver provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for eligible Washoe Tribal Health Clinic patients to medical appointments. Delivers emergency necessities and medications to patients when needed. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Abides by all public safety rules and regulations as well as established internal procedures.
· Maintains vehicle.
· Provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation.
· Assists patrons as needed.
· Inspects vehicles before driving to include: gas, oil, water, and brake and transmission levels, to ensure safety of operation.
· Performs routine safety checks on vehicles to include: operable brake lights, turn signals, tire pressure, first aid kit, and emergency road kit.
· Checks the condition on all operating parts of vehicles, to include: tires, lights, brakes, windshield wipers, etc.
· Reports needed vehicle repairs.
· Maintains accurate documentation related to mileage, consumption of gas, oil, and other service related products.
· Prepares vehicle reports as required.
· Maintains vehicle cleanliness by washing and cleaning as needed.
· Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED plus two years experience driving or transporting and must have a good driving record.
· Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license and must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.
· Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
· Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
· Knowledge of traditional form of government and tribal customs and traditions.
· Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
· Knowledge of rules of the road and road signage.
· Ability to communicate effectively in the English both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
· Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
· Ability to drive safely and efficiently.
· Ability to use a variety of hand tools in performing minor maintenance on assigned vehicles.
· Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
· Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
· Ability to safely use cleaning products and safely operate cleaning equipment.
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
· Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, lack of prejudice, and desire to help when dealing with people.
· Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything, and continually seek improvement in results.
· Certified in First Aid and CPR or ability to become so within three months of employment.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles may occur, and exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged sitting while driving is a daily occurrence. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required. Travel within and outside of the local area is required. Additional travel outside of the local area may be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:
- Negative alcohol and drug screen
- Meet requirements of Public Law 101-630
- Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the state of Nevada or California within 30 days
- Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe’s driving policy
