Position Summary:

The Health Promotion Worker is a half time position, hired to work with the Primary Care Team, this individual will work collaboratively with the primary care team, but focus initially will be on promoting the integration of western health care and the Indigenous Traditional Healing methods and traditions. This worker will also assist and guide new clients to be engaged with Nursing/Medicine; HCC-Program; Traditional Healing Program through engagement and information sharing. This initial engagement will be evidenced by the signing onto to the services provided for by the various practitioners, healers, and workers assigned to each program at their initial presentation for services that indicate final decision to be engaged with the primary care team and/or all other support services.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Promote client engagement, by introducing them to all programs and services and ensure the “signing” on with the programs and services that they would like to receive

Health promotion by engaging with all of the programs providing support and information that promotes healthy living

Assistance provided for public/community health planning

Promoting healthy lifestyles by providing assistance to wellness programming in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the programs provided

Assist with updating of the Communicable Disease Emergency Plan with the DOH

Provision of drafts of posters, flyers, business cards etc. for review and finalize to go to a printer service

Perform other duties as necessary.

Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wasauksing First Nation and any other relevant policies and procedures from external agencies and partners

Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor

Education & Experience:

Minimum, completion of a college diploma in the field of health promotion/advocacy or other related disciplines; asset would be a university degree in the discipline of health promotion or other health science discipline

Minimum of 2 years of previous related experience in health promotion/health supports

Proven problem-solving abilities, computer skills and art

Excellent communication skills as there this individual will have to work with many levels of health positions with many differing needs

Ability to speak, read and understand Anishnaabemowin (Ojibway Language) is an asset

Other Requirements:

Ability to travel and be willing to take part in “land based” programming and/or training

Understands all facets of primary care under the provincial health privacy act

Valid Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle

Willing to work flexible hours as required, including evenings and weekends

This position requires the individual to work with various families, youth and children. To protect children, youth and vulnerable persons, Wasauksing First Nation requires the individual to provide a vulnerable sector. Or criminal record check
