About Upward Bound House (UBH)

Upward Bound House is dedicated to ending family homelessness in Los Angeles. With over 30 years of experience, we provide a continuum of housing and support services that help families and young parents transition from crisis to stability. As we launch our new DMH-funded interim housing program, we’re seeking passionate, experienced professionals to join our growing team.

Overview:

The Housing Navigator assists families experiencing homelessness in securing permanent housing by fostering strong relationships with landlords and connecting clients to a diverse range of housing options. This role supports the entire housing process—from search to lease signing—and collaborates closely with case managers to ensure long-term stability for clients.

Work Environment:

You’ll work closely with families who may be in crisis, experiencing substance use, or other challenges. This role requires empathy, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and the capacity to respond effectively in emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

Build and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing partners.

Identify, visit, and secure various housing options (affordable housing, Section 8, shared housing, etc.).

Maintain an up-to-date housing database and unit availability list.

Help address client barriers (e.g., prior evictions); negotiate with landlords on behalf of clients.

Ensure units meet habitability standards and rent guidelines.

Support case managers in the housing search, application, and leasing process.

Advocate for clients and mediate landlord-tenant concerns.

Provide staff training on housing applications and requirements.

Track and document housing placements, appointments, and outcomes.

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and housing events.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree + 2 years in social services or sales/marketing, or equivalent experience.

Strong interpersonal, sales, and advocacy skills.

Experience working with landlords and/or unhoused populations preferred.

Familiarity with fair housing laws and a range of housing programs.

Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of Housing First and Harm Reduction models.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, HMIS, or other databases).

Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations.

Additional Requirements:

Valid CA driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.

TB clearance, background check, and CPR/First Aid certification.

Must meet UBH’s vehicle insurance eligibility.

Driving is essential to this position.

UBH is an Equal Opportunity Employer and strongly encourages people with lived experience, people of color, and bilingual candidates to apply.
