Description

First National Bank is seeking a highly motivated college intern to support the Human Resources Department through a structured rotational experience. The intern will shadow and work alongside four members of the HR team to gain exposure to payroll and benefits administration, audit and reporting activities, recruiting and onboarding, employee engagement, and training and development. The Human Resources (HR) Intern will receive guidance and hands-on experience while learning how HR supports employees, managers, regulatory requirements, and the Bank’s overall employee experience.

What’s in it for you?

  • Gain broad, hands-on exposure to key areas of Human Resources within a community bank environment.
  • Learn directly from HR professionals through job shadowing, guided assignments, and meaningful projects.
  • Develop practical skills in communication, organization, data analysis, confidentiality, customer service, and project coordination.
  • See how HR functions work together to support employees throughout the employment lifecycle.

What will you do as an Intern?

  • Payroll, Benefits, Audit, and Reporting: Shadow payroll and benefits processes; assist with organizing payroll, benefit, leave, time and attendance, HRIS, reporting, reconciliation, and audit-related information; and learn how accuracy, deadlines, and regulatory requirements affect these functions.
  • Recruiting and Onboarding: Support job postings, candidate communications, interview scheduling, recruiting events, pre-employment activities, new-hire documentation, orientation, and onboarding coordination.
  • Employee Engagement: Assist with employee events, recognition efforts, internal communications, feedback initiatives, and projects that promote connection, satisfaction, retention, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Training and Development: Help coordinate classroom and virtual training, maintain training calendars and materials, support new-hire and role-specific learning, assist with Learning Management System activities, and gather feedback on program effectiveness.
  • Rotate among four HR team members to observe their day-to-day responsibilities and understand how the different HR functions collaborate.
  • Assist with HR projects, employee communications, reference guides, reports, presentations, data entry, record maintenance, and process-improvement assignments.
  • Provide responsive, professional service to HR customers.
  • Protect applicant and employee information by following Bank policies and procedures related to confidentiality, data security, records, and authorized access.

Requirements

What will you need as an Intern?

  • To be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Completion of at least two years of college and current enrollment in a college or university program such as human resources, business administration, organizational development, communications, finance, accounting, or another related field.
  • Availability of up to 40 hours per week during the summer months, beginning mid-May through mid-August. Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Canva.
  • Interest in learning about the employee lifecycle and a variety of Human Resources functions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while adapting to changing team and project needs.

Why This Internship?

  • A structured rotation with four HR professionals and exposure to distinct areas of Human Resources.
  • Meaningful, real-world assignments that support employees and the Bank.
  • Broad experience across payroll, benefits, audit, recruiting, onboarding, engagement, and learning and development.
  • Opportunities to connect academic learning with practical HR experience in a regulated banking environment.
