Description

The Human Resources & Safety Assistant supports the Human Resources Manager & EHS Coordinator with the administration of day-to-day operations of the department’s functions and duties. They will assist in maintaining various employee programs, including the new hire process, recruiting, employee relations and more. They will also assist on all of the plant’s safety initiatives and will be the backup source for all safety-related matters for the plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Human Resources Duties:

· Complete, process, verify, and maintain all personnel related documentation, including paperwork for new hires, promotions, payroll changes, terminations, leaves of absence, counseling forms, and all other personnel changes.

· Assist in the full-cycle recruitment process. Partner with plant leadership on open positions, create job descriptions as needed, and post openings. Interview candidates with supervisors and support hiring decisions. Assist with all recruitment communications including being the main contact person for all temporary agencies.

· Coordinate pre-employment tasks, prepare for, and conduct new hire orientations with new hires to ensure an exceptional first day experience.

· Assist with the implementation of policies and procedures for the plant and help interpret policies and procedures for employees.

· Assist the Human Resources Manager with payroll related tasks as needed.

· Support human resource-related training sessions such as benefit enrollment training or any safety-related training.

· Be an active participant of Mittera Wisconsin’s events committee, assisting with the coordination and planning of events.

· Assist with the creation of the monthly employee newsletter and handing the newsletter out to employees.

· Manage the Mittera Wisconsin Facebook page, posting regularly to help build our brand within our local community.

· Work collaboratively with leadership, management, and staff to sustain strong work relationships, build morale, increase productivity, enhance employee engagement, and preserve talent retention.

· Provide backup to the Human Resources Manager & EHS Coordinator in their absence as needed.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety Assistant Duties:

· Be the assistant person for all safety-related matters for Mittera Wisconsin.

· Effectively help prepare for and follow up on safety committee meetings, address any questions or concerns from safety committee members, follow up on meeting discussions, and safety-related tasks as necessary.

· Support all safety-related projects – partnering with the HR Manager & EHS Coordinator on what needs to be completed and who needs to be involved.

· Participate in investigation of accidents and injuries, helping identify possible causes, and assist in the creation of accident cause corrective measures.

· Assist with monthly tasks as required by our Regional Environmental Health and Safety Manager and maintain record of our plant’s safety files.

· Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace

· Act as the backup liaison between management and external safety agencies, such as regulatory agencies, fire, and insurance personnel.

· Communicate any safety concerns that arise immediately to the Human Resources Manager & EHS Coordinator.

· Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal and state regulations

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

· 1–2 years of experience in Human Resources preferred

· Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information professionally

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with employees and leaders at all levels

· Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

· Basic understanding of employment practices, HR policies, and applicable employment laws preferred

· Professional, approachable, and service-oriented attitude

· Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to ask questions and learn

· Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

· Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, or hourly workforce environment is a plus
