The Role

We are seeking a commercially minded legal professional to join the Legal & Regulatory Team. This role is responsible for supporting the review, negotiation and management of contracts with clients, suppliers and third-party providers, ensuring that legal, regulatory, data protection, information security and commercial risks are appropriately identified and mitigated.

Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you will help ensure commercial arrangements are legally robust, commercially sound and aligned with the firm's obligations as a regulated legal services provider.

In addition to contract work, you will provide advice on legal and regulatory developments affecting the firm, develop practical guidance and policies, and help promote a strong culture of compliance, risk awareness and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, identifying and mitigating legal, regulatory and commercial risks.
  • Assess proposed commercial relationships and business initiatives to ensure compliance with the firm's regulatory obligations.
  • Partner with Data Protection and Information Security teams on contractual privacy, cybersecurity and data governance requirements.
  • Support internal committees and governance forums by providing Legal & Regulatory input on new products, services and business initiatives.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new technologies, systems and third-party services across the firm.
  • Provide legal support in relation to supplier and vendor engagements connected to fee-earning activities.
  • Develop, enhance and promote internal legal, regulatory and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Conduct supplier due diligence exercises, with a particular focus on data protection, information security and regulatory compliance.
  • Respond to day-to-day legal and regulatory queries from partners, lawyers and business services teams.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and translate these into practical guidance, policies, templates and training materials.
  • Collaborate with risk lawyers, partners and business services leaders to share best practice and address emerging regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Design and deliver engaging risk management and regulatory training sessions for legal and business services colleagues.

Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a minimum of 4 years' post-qualification experience.
  • Experience gained within a leading City, national or major regional law firm, or equivalent in-house environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) regulatory framework.
  • Significant experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to provide practical, risk-based and commercially focused advice.
  • Strong organisational and project management capabilities, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels across the business.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance.
  • Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking skills.

Desirable

  • Experience advising on data protection, information security or technology-related matters.
  • Experience supporting governance committees, product approval processes or supplier risk assessments.
  • Experience developing and delivering legal, regulatory or compliance training programmes.
