Description
The role of the Industrial Engineer is to drive productivity, quality, and cost improvements across PGM machining and manufacturing operations. The Industrial Engineer analyses processes at the machine, identifying waste, and implementing practical solutions that improve throughput, reduce cycle times, and enhance safety. Spends majority of time on the production floor working alongside operators, supervisors, and maintenance teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Value Stream Mapping: Create current-state and future-state VSMs to trace material and information flows, highlighting waste and non-value-added steps.
Standard Work: Develop, implement, and maintain clear standard work procedures, standard labor hours, cycle times, and takt times.
Process Optimization: Conduct time and motion studies, perform line balancing, and reconfigure workstation layouts.
Waste Elimination: Lead Kaizen events and problem-solving projects (such as 5S and root-cause analysis) to boost throughput.
Cross-Functional Training: Train shop-floor operators and team leaders on new standard work routines and continuous improvement tools
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Measure and evaluate production costs, production thru-put, and evaluate against standards.
- Evaluate the sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization.
- Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
- Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
- Coordinate and implement quality control objectives, activities, or procedures to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, or minimize costs.
- Confer with clients, vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, product and production specifications, manufacturing capabilities, or project status.
- Evaluate precision and accuracy of production and testing equipment and engineering drawings to formulate corrective action plan.
- Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency using drafting tools and computer programs.
- Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
- Study operations sequence, material flow, functional statements, organization charts, and project information to determine worker functions and responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment (entry-level candidates with strong internships considered), or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) will be required; candidates without certification will be expected to obtain it while working, with company support.
- Familiarity with machining processes (CNC, milling, turning, grinding) and reading engineering drawings/GD&T.
- Proficiency in time studies, capacity planning, and root-cause problem solving.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in Excel.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Preferred skills
- Experience with CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for layout and fixture design.
- Knowledge of value stream mapping, SMED, 5S, and TPM.
- Data analysis or visualization experience (Minitab, Power BI, or similar).
- Experience with Epicor ERP (or a comparable ERP/MES system) is a plus.
- Experience working withing ISO standards and ISO auditing.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee could be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; metals; cold; or heat. This job takes place in an office environment and in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet and the manufacturing environment is usually loud.

Salary range posted is flexible based on experience. Entry level candidates with strong co-op or internship experience are encouraged to apply, as are those with more experience and tenure. The range is meant to encompass pay scale for all levels of experience.
