About Us
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!
Description of Work
Reporting to a Correctional Program Supervisor, this position will function in the Programs section at a medium custody male correctional facility, this position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Coordinating all offender transfers in and out of the facility; including all paperwork/notifications to the facility staff and working closely with transportation staff.
2. Researching offender’s pending charges using AOC and CJ Leads.
3. Meeting with offenders to process paperwork with required signatures.
4. Communicating frequently with local law enforcement, probation, clerk of courts, DA’s offices, Combined Records, family members, and other prison facilities.
5. Notifying facility staff of upcoming releases.
6. Reconciling daily of the facility court screen by checking AOC and calling the clerk of court.
7. Processing additional sentences by entering them into OPUS and having the offender finger printed.
8. Filing and archiving documentation in offender files.
9. Notarizing documents as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred :
- Documented knowledge of NCDAC policies and procedures and of correctional programs in general.
- Documented knowledge of record keeping.
- Documented knowledge working with other state and local agencies dealing with criminal laws and regulations.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.
About Warren Correctional Institution
Warren Correctional Institution is a mixed custody facility that houses minimum, medium, and close custody offenders. The current capacity of Warren CI is 809 male offenders, with most offenders being housed in medium custody. Offenders at Warren Correctional Institution may work at the Correction Enterprises Janitorial Products Plant, gaining marketable job skills and self-confidence participating in the manufacturing of soap and cleaning products.
Offenders at Warren Correctional Institution may also participate in vocational training and educational courses to earn their HiSet/GED. They may also participate in the At Both Ends of the Leash (ABEL) program, which provides an opportunity for offenders to train service animals for individuals with medical diagnoses or physical disabilities.
