Inside Sales Representative – Light Industry (Northeast Territory)

Xylem's Light Industry business provides advanced water treatment solutions that support high-purity, process, and wastewater applications across a broad range of industrial markets. We are seeking an Inside Sales Representative to support customers throughout the Northeast region and help drive profitable growth through exceptional customer engagement, sales execution, and account management.
Position Summary
The Inside Sales Representative sells products and services to customers through a variety of channels and serves as a primary point of contact throughout the customer lifecycle, with a focus on customer satisfaction, retention, and business growth. This role maintains relationships with existing accounts while identifying and developing new customers within the assigned territory.
The Inside Sales Representative is responsible for closing sales opportunities, responding to customer inquiries, developing quotations and proposals, maintaining accurate sales forecasts, and collaborating closely with the outside sales team to achieve revenue targets. The successful candidate will work with a strong sense of urgency to execute sales strategies, provide consultative solutions, and identify opportunities to expand Xylem's presence across the Northeast territory.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development & Lead Generation
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within the assigned territory.
- Prospect through cold calling, email campaigns, networking, and customer referrals.
- Qualify leads and convert opportunities into revenue-generating accounts.
- Contact both prospective and existing customers to secure new and recurring business.
- Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline through proactive territory management.
Sales Execution
- Develop and execute territory sales strategies to achieve growth objectives.
- Create and deliver quotations, proposals, and commercial recommendations.
- Conduct virtual product presentations and customer consultations.
- Effectively communicate product value, benefits, pricing, and application solutions.
- Negotiate and close sales opportunities within established guidelines.
- Work in tandem with outside sales representatives to achieve sales goals and revenue targets.
- Sell increasingly complex water treatment products and services while leveraging internal technical resources on larger opportunities.
Account Management & Customer Success
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to customers by understanding their operational needs and recommending appropriate solutions.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Follow up on opportunities, quotations, and customer inquiries in a timely manner.
- Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling across the Xylem portfolio.
- Address customer concerns and coordinate resolutions through cross-functional collaboration.
Order Processing & Customer Support
- Accurately process customer orders and manage order-related communications.
- Coordinate with customer service, operations, logistics, and supply chain teams to ensure timely fulfillment.
- Communicate order updates, changes, and potential delays.
- Support customers with returns, warranty inquiries, and issue resolution.
Sales Reporting & Forecasting
- Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and pipeline data within CRM.
- Consistently record account activity to support forecasting and territory planning.
- Analyze sales performance and identify opportunities for growth.
- Prepare and provide regular sales reports and territory updates.
- Monitor progress toward sales targets and recommend improvements to sales strategies.
Product & Industry Knowledge
- Develop and maintain expertise in Xylem's Light Industry water treatment solutions.
- Stay informed on industry trends, customer technologies, competitive offerings, and market developments.
- Maintain a working knowledge of company products and services to effectively recommend solutions.
- Participate in ongoing technical and commercial training to remain a trusted partner to customers.

Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of inside sales, customer service, account management, business development, or related commercial experience.
- Proven ability to identify, cultivate, and close sales opportunities with new and existing customers.
- Experience managing a sales territory and meeting performance objectives.
- Ability to complete sales activities with minimal supervision.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer relationship management and consultative selling abilities.
- Working knowledge of industrial products, technical solutions, or water-related technologies preferred.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms, ERP systems and quoting tools.
- Fluency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multiple teams.
- Ability to prioritize and execute with a strong sense of urgency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industrial water treatment, wastewater treatment, filtration, membrane systems, high-purity water systems, or related process technologies.
- Experience supporting industrial manufacturing customers, consulting engineers, contractors, or channel partners.
