The successful candidate will provide professional engineering oversight and manufacturing support throughout production control, procurement, quality verification, project execution, and delivery activities. The role will help ensure that manufactured products meet customer, quality, code, regulatory, schedule, and cost requirements.

The employee will work closely with Manufacturing, Production Control, Procurement Engineering, Quality Assurance, Project Management, Supply Chain, and suppliers. The employee will be required to obtain security clearance for Candu Energy Inc. facilities and customer sites and may be required to travel to manufacturing facilities, supplier locations, and client sites, both domestically and internationally.

As an option, the employee may participate in short-term field service assignments on Candu Field Services projects, typically during customers’ outages and at their sites. During these assignments, the employee may be requested to perform work in a radiological work environment such as set-up and operation activities of certain tooling. In this event, the employee will be required to be a Nuclear Energy Worker qualified and trained to CANDU Energy’s RP program as “Group 3” worker and with our customer’s onboarding process, as well as receiving practical training related to the project.

Your role

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support for nuclear manufacturing and spare parts projects.
  • Review engineering requirements and develop manufacturing strategies that achieve quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Support manufacturing planning, work instructions, routers, manufacturing packages, production documentation, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Lead and/or support Project Authorization Packages (Pro-Acts), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Design Deviation Reports (DDRs), Corrective Action System (CAS) investigations, non-conformances, engineering queries, and manufacturing deviations.
  • Provide Professional Engineer review, approval, and oversight for applicable manufacturing activities and deliverables.
  • Provide timely technical support to Production Control, fabrication shops, Procurement Engineering, Quality, suppliers, and project teams.
  • Evaluate manufacturing issues, perform technical investigations, and implement practical resolutions that support safe and efficient project execution.
  • Review supplier manufacturing methods and resolve technical concerns associated with fabrication, welding, inspection, and testing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable customer specifications, company procedures, nuclear quality requirements, and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code requirements, including Section III, Section VIII, and Appendix XXIII, as applicable.
  • Participate in design and technical reviews to improve manufacturability, fabrication efficiency, and product quality.
  • Support cost estimation, manufacturing assessments, bid reviews, scope definition, schedule development, risk assessments, and technical proposal preparation for new manufacturing and spare parts opportunities.
  • Provide technical input to customer proposals and collaborate with Business Development, Project Management, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, and Supply Chain during proposal preparation and project execution.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on manufacturing efficiency, quality, cost, and delivery performance.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and Engineers-in-Training.
  • Perform other administrative, analytical review, or technical investigation activities as directed.
  • Travel to project sites, both domestic and international, to support various Candu Field Services projects, as required.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent accredited engineering program.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario, or eligible for immediate registration. This role is intended for a licensed Professional Engineer rather than an Engineer-in-Training.
  • Approximately 4 to 8 years of relevant engineering experience in manufacturing, fabrication, production engineering, procurement engineering, or industrial operations.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing execution in a regulated or quality-controlled industry.
  • Experience developing or reviewing manufacturing documentation, work packages, inspection plans, technical procedures, and production records.
  • Experience supporting cost estimation, proposal development, bid evaluations, and technical sales activities is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with non-conformance resolution, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and engineering change control.
  • Familiarity with ASME Appendix XXIII requirements and their application to applicable manufacturing and quality activities is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III and/or Section VIII is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of welding methods, welding processes, welding procedure specifications (WPSs), procedure qualification records (PQRs), welder performance qualifications, weld inspection practices, and related fabrication methods is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and provide timely technical support to production operations.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, customers, suppliers, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Ability to travel to manufacturing facilities, supplier locations, and client sites as required.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, written, verbal, and customer relationship skills.
  • Fluency in additional languages, particularly Korean, Mandarin, Romanian, Spanish, or French, will be considered an asset.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, integrity, customer focus, teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Preferred experience:

  • Nuclear component manufacturing, heavy fabrication, custom equipment manufacturing, or pressure vessel fabrication.
  • Pressure-retaining components, welded assemblies, refurbishment programs, and spare parts manufacturing.
  • ASME Code implementation, Code-stamped products, and applicable nuclear quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Production Control, supplier oversight, fabrication surveillance, procurement engineering, and quality surveillance.
  • Welding processes such as GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW, including review of related welding qualification documentation.
  • Working with international suppliers, customers, and manufacturing partners.
