We deliver a first-of-its-kind offer that seamlessly integrates Planning & Operations Control, Flight, Technical, and Ground Operations. By providing interoperable digital solutions for end-to-end operations, Skywise combines aircraft manufacturer expertise and digital know-how to transform operational complexity into predictable and profitable performance, ensuring resilient and more sustainable operations.

As a Backend Software Development Intern, you’ll join our engineering team to contribute directly to high-performance Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and scalable microservices that power modern aviation operations. You will help build, test, and maintain cloud-based backend systems that process critical aviation data, playing an active role in solving complex technical challenges while advancing digital transformation across Airbus.

The primary objective of this internship is to build practical expertise in digital technologies, management, business processes, and operations through hands-on participation in Software Factory projects, while applying Airbus Group standards. Within the Software Factory department, candidates will develop expertise in backend software engineering, Object-Oriented Design, cloud architectures, automated testing methodologies, and Agile software development lifecycles.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain clean, performant .NET (C#) code across cloud-hosted microservices and technical tooling.
  • Write unit, component, and functional tests to enforce quality standards and maintain application reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews and apply core architecture principles (e.g., SOLID and clean code) to elevate codebase health.
  • Collaborate within an Agile team to investigate defects, debug issues, and deploy feature fixes.
  • Create and update comprehensive technical documentation for internal software systems and databases.
  • Communicate daily project progress, roadblocks, and solutions clearly with team members.

Must Haves:

  • Being a student in the final years of university studies (preferred fields of study: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline).
  • Being available for 30–40 hours per week.
  • Sound understanding of Object-Oriented Programming principles with practical experience in C# / .NET.
  • Basic knowledge of relational databases and Object-Relational Mapping tools.
  • Academic or practical exposure to Representational State Transfer (REST) Web APIs.
  • Familiarity with version control concepts (such as Git) and software testing principles.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with fluent spoken and written English skills.

Software/Technologies You’ll Use:

  • C# / .NET
  • Git / GitHub / GitLab
  • Relational Databases (SQL) & Object-Relational Mappers (e.g., Entity Framework)
  • Testing frameworks (NUnit, XUnit, or MSTest)

Nice to Haves:

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Amazon Web Services or Azure) or container technology (Docker).
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines or Python automation.
  • Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., Vue.js or JavaScript).
  • Interest in aviation systems or air navigation principles.

What we offer:

  • 12-Month Fixed-Term Employment Contract
  • Additional 3 days off during the holiday season (floater days)
  • Additional 1 day off for thesis defense

Recruitment Roadmap:

  • Application Review: Initial screening of resume and qualification fit.
  • Technical Interview: Virtual discussion covering basic software engineering concepts, project experience, and mutual culture fit.
  • Interview with the Hiring Manager: in person conversation with the team lead to discuss specific role expectations, team dynamics, and potential technical projects
  • Offer & Onboarding: Formal offer extension and preparation for day one!
