Within Thermo Fisher Scientific, we create workflow solutions to tailored for customer use cases. One such workflow is single particle analysis, which acquires a large number of images exposed with a low electron dose, assembles them in a 3D model from which the chemical structure of the targeted particle is extracted. This is used to understand the structure of small particles, such as a virus, and helps in finding drugs / vaccines to treat / prevent diseases caused by them.
One of the applications used in the single-particle analysis workflow is Smart EPU, which guides users to acquire images under the best conditions for 3D reconstruction. In this project, we aim to extend the Smart EPU solution with a Generative AI Assistant to enable new users to navigate through the complex procedures of the microscopy and focus on the biology challenges they have. The assistant provides context-aware guidance and is meant to enable even novice users to perform tasks that otherwise would require a power user.
