Are you ready to start your career in investment management with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities to grow? At Securian Asset Management, we’re looking for driven, curious, and analytical early-career professionals to join our two-year Investment Analyst Development Program.

The Investment Analyst Development Program is designed to build the foundational skills needed for a successful career in investment management. Participants gain hands-on experience working alongside investment professionals while developing their capabilities in financial analysis, credit research, investment evaluation, and portfolio management.

Throughout the program, participants will gain exposure to multiple public and private asset classes, including meaningful experience within Commercial Mortgage Lending . This experience will provide the opportunity to develop an understanding of commercial real estate underwriting, credit analysis, portfolio management, and the factors that influence real estate investment decisions.

Participants will support analysts and portfolio managers in managing Securian's insurance company general account while gaining exposure to how investment decisions are evaluated and made within an institutional asset management organization.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

  • Two-year development program with opportunities for continued career growth.
  • Hands-on experience evaluating investment opportunities and understanding how credit, market conditions, asset fundamentals, and portfolio considerations influence investment decisions.
  • On-the-job training designed to build investment knowledge, analytical capabilities, and business acumen.
  • One-on-one mentorship with senior investment professionals.
  • Sponsored pursuit of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with senior investment analysts and portfolio managers to evaluate investment opportunities and develop investment recommendations.
  • Conduct and present proprietary credit, industry, and market research.
  • Support the evaluation of commercial mortgage investment opportunities through financial analysis, property and market research, underwriting, and due diligence.
  • Analyze commercial real estate fundamentals, including property performance, market conditions, cash flows, valuation, borrower financial strength, and credit risk.
  • Build financial models and spreadsheets and utilize analytics software and databases, including Bloomberg, for credit and industry analysis, investment monitoring, and portfolio reporting.
  • Engage with issuer representatives, sell-side analysts, borrowers, brokers, and other market participants to support investment analysis and decision-making.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects to support investment research, portfolio management, and the broader investment decision-making process.
  • Leverage generative AI tools to gather and analyze information from a wide range of sources, including prospectuses, financial statements, property and market information, and third-party research used in public and private market investment analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, preferably Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Real Estate, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and interest in investment management, fixed income, commercial real estate, or financial markets.
  • Leadership potential and a desire to make an impact.
  • Internship, academic, or other relevant work experience that demonstrates analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Interest in technology and experience using or learning generative AI and other analytical tools.

Our goal is to give you broad exposure to different markets and investment strategies so you can discover where your strengths and interests align. At the end of the two-year program, the intention is to place participants into a permanent position within Securian Asset Management . If no suitable role is available, the program will conclude at that point. We also recognize that career paths can take different directions, and participants may choose to pursue opportunities outside of Securian AM if that better aligns with their long-term goals.
