Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.

At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

We are looking for an Intellectual Property Counsel to join Roblox’s Legal and Advocacy team. In this role, you will advise and collaborate with various teams within the business on a broad array of legal matters related to intellectual property, including IP enforcement and protection, intermediary liability and copyright, and trade secrets.

Successful candidates will have strong experience advising on current legal frameworks and risks in the intellectual property space, including infringement assessment, IP disputes, platform liability, global copyright frameworks, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technology issues. This is a great opportunity to join a growing legal team, learn about interesting new technologies and business models, and work on novel issues in an exciting, fast-paced environment.

You will:

Help manage active IP disputes end-to-end, partnering with internal teams and outside counsel on case strategy, negotiations, and litigation support.

Assess and triage new off-platform infringement reports, provide enforcement recommendations, and coordinate with outside counsel and brand protection vendors.

Draft and execute cease-and-desist letters, DMCA takedown notices, and platform-specific IP complaints, while managing brand protection vendors.

Oversee the IP notice-and-takedown program, including partnering with Trust and Safety, Developer Relations, and other cross-functional teams to resolve escalations and align on decisions, refining related legal guidance and policy, and counseling feature launches on Roblox’s IP Platform.

Drive strategy and execution with respect to on-platform enforcement initiatives and advise on new launches with respect to platform liability issues (e.g., DMCA, EU Digital Services Act).

Build and update playbooks, templates, and policies to streamline internal IP team projects, portfolio management, and company-wide programs.

Support initiatives and strategies to protect hard IP.

Provide IP training to cross-functional partners.

Remain up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and evolving industry standards to provide sound legal advice.

Tackle any additional incoming questions to the legal team that you are interested in!

You have:

3 - 5+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably a combination of law firm and in-house experience at a consumer-facing technology company.

Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.

A strong working knowledge of intellectual property legal issues, including those related to trademark and copyright protection, brand enforcement, customs enforcement, technology licensing, artificial intelligence, and content moderation.

Previous experience counseling on platform liability in the tech industry.

A track record of educating internal stakeholders, translating complex concepts, and advising on risk mitigation strategies.

Strong business-oriented judgment and the ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, and provide advice that is creative, practical, and legally acceptable, taking into account the needs and objectives of the business.

Ability to work well with a growing team and desire to seek responsibility and work autonomously. Must be able to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues, particularly in a fast-paced, corporate setting.

Sense of humor, low ego, and high level of professionalism.
