IT Helpdesk Specialist

Joliet, IL OR University Park, I

Employment Type: Full-Time

Rate of Pay: $65,000 - $70,000/yr

We’re looking for an IT Helpdesk Specialist to join our team, where you’ll help keep our office and warehouse teams connected and productive. Reporting to the IT Helpdesk Service Manager, you’ll deliver hands-on L1/L2 technical support, maintain reliable equipment, and improve service through documentation and automation. This role provides technical guidance without personnel-management responsibility.

Your Impact:

As an IT Helpdesk Specialist, you will:

  • Resolve L1/L2 hardware, software, account, and connectivity issues; own tickets, communicate progress, and escalate appropriately within SLA procedures.
  • Support Microsoft 365, Active Directory, user access, passwords/MFA, Wi-Fi, VPN, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain computers, printers, scanners, RF handhelds, and warehouse devices; keep asset records accurate.
  • Assist frontline Helpdesk colleagues with technical escalations and coordinate complex issues with specialist teams and vendors.
  • Maintain support guides and runbooks, investigate recurring issues, and use approved scripting and automation to reduce downtime.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Hands-on troubleshooting ability across desktops, laptops, peripherals, operating systems, and business applications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, domains, and secure account/access support.
  • Foundational understanding of TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, and DHCP troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, asset tracking, device setup, and deployment documentation.
  • Ability to support or quickly learn 3CX, HikCentral, and warehouse technologies while following security and escalation procedures.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Approximately 2–4 years of Helpdesk or desktop support experience, including escalated L2 troubleshooting.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience supporting warehouse operations or users across multiple locations.
  • Experience with RF handhelds, scanners, and Zebra/label printers.
  • Basic scripting or automation experience to streamline repetitive support tasks.

Skills for Success

  • Structured troubleshooting and practical problem-solving.
  • Clear, customer-focused communication.
  • Prioritization, ticket ownership, and dependable follow-through.
  • Cross-functional teamwork and peer coaching.
  • Attention to detail, security awareness, and continuous improvement.
