Junior Associate – Large Loss
Employers’ Liability & Public Liability
Location: Manchester
The Role
We are looking for a Junior Associate to join our established Large Loss team in Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor looking to develop their career within a specialist team handling complex and high-value personal injury claims. The successful candidate will work primarily on Employers’ Liability (EL) and Public Liability (PL) matters , supporting experienced lawyers on a varied caseload of large loss claims.
The role would suit someone with a background in defendant personal injury who is keen to build their experience of higher-value and more complex litigation within an international law firm.
Key Responsibilities
Working as part of the Large Loss team, you will:
- Assist with and manage a caseload of EL and PL claims, appropriate to your level of experience.
- Support senior lawyers on complex and high-value large loss matters.
- Review and analyse evidence, including medical records, witness evidence, expert reports and disclosure.
- Investigate issues relating to liability, causation and quantum.
- Draft correspondence, court documents, instructions to experts and counsel, and other legal documentation.
- Assist with the preparation of cases for conferences, hearings, joint settlement meetings and trial.
- Liaise with clients, insurers, witnesses, experts, counsel and other parties throughout the lifecycle of a claim.
- Ensure matters are progressed efficiently and in accordance with court deadlines and client requirements.
- Develop strong client relationships and provide clear, commercial and practical advice.
- Contribute to the wider development of the team, including knowledge sharing and business development initiatives.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a qualified solicitor with experience in personal injury litigation.
- Has previous experience of Employers’ Liability and/or Public Liability claims , ideally within a defendant practice.
- Has a good understanding of the litigation process and the Civil Procedure Rules.
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Can manage competing priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Takes a practical and commercial approach to claims.
- Is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team.
- Is keen to develop their technical expertise in complex and large loss litigation.
Previous direct experience of large loss claims would be advantageous, but we would also be interested in candidates who have developed strong EL/PL experience and are ready to take the next step into more complex work.
The Team
The Manchester Large Loss team handles complex, high-value personal injury litigation, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to work alongside experienced lawyers and develop their expertise across challenging EL and PL claims.
The role offers exposure to sophisticated litigation and the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as your experience develops.
