Job Description

Position Summary

As a Junior C++ Developer , you will develop software for our Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) products, working at the intersection of C++, hardware, and advanced scientific instrumentation .

You will develop and improve software components that control and interact with the microscope, contribute to new algorithms, and turn technical ideas into reliable solutions for our customers.

You will work closely with Software Quality, Systems Engineering, other engineering disciplines, and Applications Development while having the opportunity to work hands-on with our microscopes.

This role is part of the expansion of our Brno Development Center , collaborating with colleagues across our international R&D organization.

Our Technology

Our Desktop SEM business develops advanced scanning electron microscopes used worldwide in materials science, manufacturing, research, and quality assurance.

Our software connects users with sophisticated microscope technology, integrating:

  • C++ and low-level hardware control
  • Embedded and Linux-based systems
  • Microscope control and automation
  • Algorithms and control systems
  • Web technologies and user interfaces
  • Networking and system communication

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain C++ software for Desktop SEM products.
  • Develop software interfaces and low-level control for microscope hardware.
  • Design, prototype, and test new algorithms and technical concepts.
  • Take ownership of software components throughout their lifecycle.
  • Work hands-on with microscopes to develop, test, and troubleshoot software.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Software Quality, Applications Development, and other engineering teams.
  • Investigate technical issues and contribute to root-cause analysis and product improvements.
  • Evaluate new technologies and solutions that improve product quality and maintainability.
  • Contribute ideas for new product features and improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, integration, and software deployment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ .
  • Experience with low-level hardware control or hardware/software integration .
  • Familiarity with Git or similar version-control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A hands-on mindset and interest in understanding how complex physical systems work.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good communication skills in English.

Experience with one or more of the following would be an advantage:

  • Linux and embedded systems
  • Yocto
  • Control systems
  • REST APIs and gRPC
  • Network programming
  • Jenkins and CI/CD
  • JavaScript and Vue
  • Formal modelling tools such as Dezyne or Coco
  • Scientific instrumentation, microscopy, or other complex hardware/software products
