Lab Supervisor – Bon Secours Five Forks Emergency Center

Job Summary:

The Supervisor Lab coordinates workflows including organizing, staffing, directing, reviewing, and monitoring related to some or all aspects of the clinical laboratory disciplines (e.g., Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Point of Care, Toxicology). This position works closely with other laboratory section leaders, laboratory management, and pathologists. They ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Essential Functions:

• •Utilizes working knowledge of procedures and theories in all areas of responsibilities.
• •Hires, onboards, and administers disciplinary actions of personnel as needed.
• •Completes schedule and manages timekeeping.
• •Implements policies and procedures as relates to specific area.
• •Oversees training and orientation of personnel.
• •Maintains standards of accreditation for their area.
• •Performs regular discussion on priorities and performance to staff via touch bases, check-ins, etc.

Education:

• •Bachelors, Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Biomedical Science/Biology/Biochemistry from a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved program (required for BSMH only)
• •Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent (required for Roper only)

Certifications:

MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required)

Experience:

• •5 years of experience in a laboratory tech setting (preferred)
• •Previous experience in a leadership position in a laboratory tech environment preferred, not (required)

Skills & Abilities:

• •Demonstrates leadership competencies and skills for the position, including excellent communication, customer service, continuous quality improvement, relationship development, and decision making
• •Possesses extensive knowledge of clinical practice or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment
