Job Description Summary

As a Fleet Support Lead Engineer, you will lead the definition and execution of simulation analyses to support field issues like RCAs, PAC and SAFER cases and contribute to running the best wind turbine fleet. You will team up with other functions such as Systems, FPM, Controls & Operability and others to understand field performance and investigate turbine malfunctioning through aeroelastic simulations and fleet data analysis.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of advanced aeroelastic simulation strategies for multi-variable RCA and fleet-related investigations.
  • Manage end-to-end simulation workflows, ensuring technical rigor and alignment with project timelines from initiation to closure.
  • Take ownership of complex ASR and SAFER actions, providing high-level technical input to ensure fleet safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on field data to uncover hidden load-related trends, translating findings into actionable field improvements in turbine operation and loading.
  • Design and implement enhancements to field data analysis tools, driving automation and reliability in the existing toolchain.
  • Lead technical coordination within System Simulation disciplines and with Systems and Controls teams to resolve complex cross-functional challenges.
  • Facilitate and lead technical design reviews, ensuring all documentation meets stringent quality and safety standards.
  • Conduct independent risk assessments and propose mitigation plans for field-critical performance gaps.
  • Set the standard for peer reviews, acting as a reviewer for complex simulation packages.
  • Synthesize field lessons-learned to formalize and update organizational load methods and DFMEA documentation.
  • Drive process improvements in lean and industrialization initiatives to enhance simulation throughput.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to less-experienced engineers, sharing expertise on simulation best practices and field data assessments of turbine operability
  • Collaborate closely with the system modeling team to validate and refine the accuracy of physics-based models.

Qualification/Requirements

  • Extensive years of professional experience in Mechanical, Wind, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university (or equivalent).
  • Proven proficiency with wind turbine loads simulation, with a focus on real-world field application and root cause analysis.
  • Significant experience working with complex wind turbine field data (e.g., SCADA, GR, trip logs) to drive engineering solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in programming (MATLAB, Python) and GitHub workflow management.
  • Experience leading initiatives for design and process improvements.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in Systems Engineering specifically related to wind turbine operability, performance and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to own and drive large technical workstreams independently.
  • Sophisticated problem-solving skills for multi-physics, high-ambiguity engineering challenges.
  • Strong leadership in cross-functional settings: Ability to influence stakeholders and teams without needing formal reporting authority.
  • Superior communication skills: Demonstrated ability to articulate complex technical data clearly to leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Coaching aptitude: Proven track record of training and elevating the technical capabilities of junior team members.
  • M.S. in Mechanical, Wind, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering is highly preferred.
